The White Ninja

>> Thursday, July 1, 2010

I sure love this blue-eyed boy! He is mischievous, independent and hilarious. He makes me laugh every day. On this particular day, Alex decided he was The White Ninja. Check out the humorous "ninja moves"!

Having your ears on the outside of your ninja hood is essential. It helps you hear those stealthy enemies who might be sneaking up on you!

Ninja Wedgie!

Whew! I feel much safer now!

Edited to add:
My mom just sent me this picture as proof that all ninjas keep their ears outside of the hood...

Why?

Because when this boy....

Yes, this is a self-portrait

does this...
Yes, that is 10 pounds of sugar...thanks for asking.

I reach for the camera instead of wringing his neck!

Amnesia

I have a serious love/hate relationship with Walmart.

Tonight the relationship is leaning heavily toward the hate side.

Why?

Because my local Walmart just underwent a major remodel.

It is lovely, really.

It's brighter, it's cleaner, the aisles seem slightly wider (hooray!) and if you stand still too long in the freezer section, the lights in the freezers turn off. Isn't that energy savvy?

HOWEVER...

The powers that be have messed with my head rearranged the whole flipping store.

Now I wander around like an amnesic, muttering to myself, "I KNOW IT'S GOT TO BE HERE SOMEWHERE!"

I'm thinking that slogan ought to read...

Walmart

Save money. Lose your mind.

Channeling Martha

>> Saturday, September 19, 2009

What in the world do you do when carpool leaves at 8:30 a.m. and you are informed by your darling daughter at 8:17 a.m. that it is "Crazy Helmet" day?

You channel your "Inner Martha", of course!

I'm not sure Martha would approve of pipe cleaners, googly eyes and glue dots, but I'm sure I'd score a few points for creativity and speed!

Choo, Choo!

I have been considering getting Alex aboard the "potty train". He has been rather resistant to the whole idea.

When I ask him if he'd like to go in the potty his reply is always, "NO! Dat be too scary!"

So I cooked up this great idea of a sticker chart where he can earn a sticker for each time he goes potty. After a certain amount of stickers, he gets a prize of some sort. He seemed a bit more open to that idea and thinks a donut with orange frosting would make a good prize.

Now to actually punch the ticket and get on the "potty train"!

But giving up diapers means giving up the diaper bag.

And giving up the diaper bag means...

No more contraband movie treats!

I guess I'm going to need to buy a bigger purse!

Messy Smurf!

Thank goodness egg dye tablets are non-toxic. (Yes, he ate it.)

From now on, I'll be keeping them in a less accessible location!

Like maybe the roof.

Looking On The Bright Side

The one good thing about having our van in the shop and paying nearly 500 smackers to have it fixed, was borrowing the shop's car and noticing the tag on the key chain that read...

Ford Taurus LONER Car.

Are they insinuating the car is a loner? Or if you drive the car you are a loner? Or you have to be a loner to drive the car?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm still laughing. It was a hilarious moment in what was an otherwise crappy situation.

I only wish I would have taken a picture...

80's Flashback

>> Saturday, February 21, 2009

This is scary.
Be afraid.

Be very afraid.
Thanks to Megan and Trent for a "rockin' awesome" 80's party.

And for reminding us how "totally rad" the 80's fashions really were!

*Also, a big thanks to my inhibited husband for humoring me, wearing his t-shirt from 1988, pegging his pants and agreeing to be seen with me in public tonight!*

"Bed"st Buddies

>> Sunday, February 8, 2009

When I went down to tuck Emily in tonight, this is what I found. Two monkeys in bed giggling uncontrollably. After a few minutes of silliness, I told Alex it was time for him to go to his bed. He forcefully replied, "NO! I SLEEP WITH EMMY!" I'm certain if we'd have tried his idea that no sleeping would have taken place. :o)

Random Bullets of Update Thought

>> Wednesday, January 14, 2009

  • My desktop computer is seriously impaired...thus the delay in Emily's birthday post. It's time for a computer check up...or an upgrade.

  • Alex is still singing Christmas carols. I have the cutest video...from two weeks ago...but I CANNOT get it to upload.

  • Todd learned our phone number. I had 12 new voice mail messages today. See the connection?

  • Alex thinks he needs to know our phone number too. He took an old cell phone to bed with him tonight. And then cried for me to "Tell me a tone number!"

  • Emily auditioned for Farmington City's Youth Theatre production of Seussical Jr. and got the part of a "Who". She is beyond thrilled and excited.

  • Natalie is auditioning for the One Voice Children's Choir on Saturday. She is also beyond thrilled and excited...and a bit nervous.

  • Todd asked me this on Sunday: "When I was a baby was I still named Todd?"

  • Emily just finished reading The Candy Shop War. 404 pages! She'll make her AR goal by Friday now. Way to go Em!

  • Natalie is a spelling maniac! She aces her spelling test every week.

  • I told Todd that if he watched too much TV his brain would turn to mush. To which he replied..."Then I won't know my phone number anymore!"

  • Emily is going skiing for the first time on January 26th. Kurt has graciously volunteered to be a chaperone. :o)

  • Natalie was chosen as first grade student of the month at school.

  • Alex has spent the past week or more building and re-building a birthday cake out of 'duplo' blocks for his favorite babysitter, "Emily Pockins". (Not to be confused with Mary Poppins...although she is just as awesome!)

Say What?

Todd says the funniest things.

Here's a random sampling from the past couple of days.

  • "Mom, my best days are when you don't make me cry."
  • "Come on, Alex. We're buddies...and buddies stick together."
  • "Carrie, guess what? Last night I had a babysitter and she didn't even "tub" me before she put me to bed."
  • "Mom, can we go to that 'museum' again?" (he was referring to the mall)
  • "I was looking for my shoes and I went down the stairs and "TA DA"...they were right by the couch!"
  • "Mom, I had to steal your money so I could pay you for those glue dots I wasted."

Wake Up Call

>> Thursday, December 4, 2008

This morning I awoke to Natalie patting my shoulder and whispering, "MOM! It's time to get up!"

I groggily rolled over and squinted at the clock.

7:56

7:56! Argh! What!?!

Why didn't the alarm go off?

The girls have to leave in 39 minutes!

Why didn't Kurt tell me goodbye before he left?

OH!

That's why. He's still sleeping! Yikes!

An insane flurry of activity followed; I woke Kurt, sent Natalie to get dressed, then ran to wake Emily and hustle the girls along so they wouldn't be late for school.

A few minutes later, Kurt came downstairs (I think he broke the world record for fastest shower) and said, "Did Todd tell you what he did?"

"No."

"Well, ask him."

"Todd, what did you do?"

"I turned your radio off," he replied.

"Oh, really?" I said. "Why?"

"Because I didn't like listening to those people just talking."

Apparently, Todd came into our bed in the wee hours of this morning.
And apparently, he does not enjoy waking up to people 'just talking' on the radio! :o)

Casting Her Ballot

>> Monday, October 27, 2008

Emily's class is following the presidential election.

This afternoon she came home with an assignment to do some research on the candidates. We were talking about the assignment when Emily asked...

"Mom, what's a Republican?"

I replied, "Republicans are..."
(and paused slightly, trying to make sure my answer was something she would understand)

During my slight pause, she chimed in with this gem...

"Old?"

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :o) I'm still belly laughing over this one.

Well...Emily, not always, but in this case...YES!

The Terrorists Are Sedating My Grandpa

>> Wednesday, October 15, 2008

My Grandpa recently had heart surgery and a hip replacement. He is recovering at the Sunshine Terrace and will hopefully be able to go home in a few weeks.

The following is a classic example of marital miscommunication...

Me: Hey Kurt, get this...Grandma thinks the Terrace is sedating Grandpa because they don't want to deal with him.

Kurt: What?

Me: You know, sedating him.

Kurt: Huh? Who?

Me: THE TERRACE!

Kurt: THE TERRORISTS?

Me: No! The Terrace...as in the Sunshine Terrace.

Kurt: Wow. I know your Grandma is getting a bit 'funny' in her old age, but that seemed flat out crazy.

Hopefully there are no terrorists at the Terrace! :o)

Tell Me How You Really Feel

>> Thursday, October 9, 2008

Last week while I was making dinner, Todd came into the kitchen and asked...

"Mom, what are you making?"

"Dinner," I replied.

My answer was greeted with a 'limp noodle' drop to the floor and the wail of...

"UUGGHH! I DON'T WANT DINNER! YOU ALWAYS MAKE NASTY STUFF FOR DINNER!"

"Well, what do you want me to make?" I asked.

His reply...

"LUNCH!"
