The Last Lilac Season

Hello friends...
Thought you might like a peek at our lovely lilacs
as this is our last spring here in the Hudson River Valley.

Once again, these faithful lilacs bring back happy memories,
especially of my Mom and Nana.

We have transplanted some shoots up to the lake house and
hopefully will be able to enjoy these family blooms for many years
 to come in the Adirondacks.

Lilacs do well there as they love the cool mountain weather.

Doesn't my antique bee skep look even more fantastic
 adorned with these lovely lilacs?

Wishing you all a beautiful season
of pretty blossoms and fun flea markets!

I am off on an exciting adventure with my Dad, sister and brother in law. We are headed to Paris tomorrow for a few days, and then will cruise on the Seine to Normandy. It is Dad's 88th birthday!

...I know, unbelievably lucky!
...feeling blessed and very grateful.
:)
Will take photos!

Spring Blossoms

This time of the year...
...my heart sings, my energy level pumps up and I feel inspired.
Does that happen to you too?

Just thought I would pop in to share some quick IPhone photos
that I have taken in the last few days.

I love playing with my lilacs.
If you have followed along these last four years,
you know that our lilacs are family blooms...
some were my grandmother's, Mr. Flea's grandmother's
and the deep double French were my Mom's.

The dogwoods this past week were stunning.
We have just one pink...the rest are white.

And...of course, I love using my vintage, rustic treasures
to hold the all the beautiful blossoms
we are lucky enough to have on the property.

My fascination with Instagram continues,
but my son Dan will be happy to know
that I have been using my Canon big girl camera again
and now that we have replaced my 8 year old laptop
(may she rest in peace)
with a new one that is fast and has lots of storage...
I hope to blog a bit more often as well.

Wishing you a lovely spring!
I can't wait to get back up to the lake!

Take care!

Lilac Love

May is such an incredibly beautiful month...

It is also the month my Dad was born...
...he will be 86 in a few days!
(and is still working on his dollhouses!)

Our beautiful daughter Kate was born on May 1st
and the lilacs were in full bloom the day we brought her home.

We are so fortunate to have three different varieties of lilacs
that were once our mothers and grandmothers.

Sharing my lilac love with all of you...
...and Happy Mother's Day too!

:)

P.S. ...and just so you don't think that everything
around here smells heavenly...
...below is a photo I snapped of an unwanted intruder.

I have filled the house with buckets of lilacs but this fragrant fellow
has taken up residence under the front porch.
oh well  :)

Spring Promises

As our lilacs promise to fully bloom within the week...
... our hope is that this Spring will bring a renewal
of faith and trust in all that is good and true.

Our jonquils and daffodils
raise their sunny faces to the morning sun.

The colors of early Spring...

The weather is warming up... finally...
and our dogwoods and flowering trees will be in full bloom soon.

I can't help but smile looking up at these frothy pink blossoms!
Spring...
...a time of renewal, promise of all that is beautiful
and hope for a better future.

We needed Spring.
Feeling sooo grateful that she is finally here!
:)

Playing With Lilacs

So beautiful.
I spent an hour or so playing with my lilacs yesterday.

Have I told you about my allergies?

Ah-choo!

It was worth every minute!
:)
There's a flea market close by tomorrow morning...
...if it doesn't rain, Mr. Flea and I may take a look.
Hope you have a great weekend!

They're Blooming!

It's that time of year.
...and the lilacs have just started to bloom here.

We are so lucky to have several types of lilacs on the property.
These white ones were once in Mr. Flea's grandmother's garden.

And these...
...these are my favorites...not quite ready though...another few days.

These were my mother's lilacs.
She called them Double French.

 Hi Mom.

They're going to be outstanding this year.

Hope you're having a good week...
 Lilac love to you...
:)

Spring Zinc

It's a good thing I took pictures of  the lilacs and flowering trees while the sun was still shining last week...
...because, by the time the torrential rains end this weekend
 the blossoms will be gone.
Such a fleeting but always inspiring time of year...

The forecast is for clearing weather by Saturday ...
...just in time for the sale at Paula's home in Centerbrook, CT....

I have been dragging out the zinc pots and containers....
...still have to find all those watering cans.

Trying to decide what to bring to sell.
Can't keep it all!

Hope you are having a good and productive week...
decisions, decisions!
:)
