The 365 Day Challenge

My goal is to create something every day using something from my craft cupboard. I am a self-confessed fabric addict and just love to fossick through thrift shops and find treasures.

So here goes. Live, love, recycle and get crafting.

Day 332 - Paper flowers - little golden books and maps

These are some flowers for my valentine. Valentines day my style.

Paper flowers from little golden book pages, with sticks from my backyard as stems. These are in a wine bottle with a tea towel wrapped around it. I love the pretty colours and I hope Mr Crafty does too. x

Then I made a map paper flower using a cheese box as the base to glue on to and just cutting out lots of petal shapes and layering them up. I used a scrap of doily for the centre, which I painted with a glue paint mixture, and dressed up a pesto jar with a baby jumper sleeve for the vase. (The jumper had holes in the wool :-( )

Happy Valentines Day everyone. xxxxxx

Day 299 - Little golden book of inspiration

I'm going through a bit of a creative lull at the moment, which may sound odd since I make something every day, but usually I have at least ten things in my head that I want to make in the coming weeks. At the moment I don't, and my head is full of kids. It's school holidays after all.

So I decided to make myself this little golden book notebook, to jot down ideas and inspirations, using a book I bought whist in Bright for 20 cents.

I pulled apart the book gently, cut some plain paper, and glued it back together again with the new blank pages. I added a little bit of pretty lace too.

Day 260 - Lacing cards from an old book cover.

All that was left of this book was the cover, so I decided to make a lacing card out of it, great for working on fine motor skills. I used a hole punch, some lacquer and some wool. My hole punch struggled a bit so a couple of the holes look a bit dodgy but the kids don't care.

Day 254 - Recycled book page Christmas decorations.

This year I've decided to make all of our Christmas decorations using recycled materials. Today is my first effort, using recycled book pages to make these onion shaped hanging decorations.

First I cut strips in three different lengths.

Then I glued the strips at the top and bottom so that they looked like this, with the shortest strip in the middle.

Finished! I punched a hole in the top to hang them.

My little golden book paper was a little too thin so I glued two layers together to give each strip a bit more body, and hung them up using some metallic thread.

They are hard to photograph properly, but they do look quite good.

Day 241 - Paper Chains with little golden book pages

I'm having a nice restful day with my two little men today and doing some craft with Aidan. We have made some paper chain with some of the pages from our damaged little golden books.

Dylan didn't help but he is very pleased with this new trick he has happening.

Day 234 - Little Golden Book Birdhouse

I picked up these very old and a bit shabby looking little golden books from the op shop last week with the idea of making a few things. I had seen a book birdhouse on pinterest and wanted to give it a go. A wooden birdhouse was used as a base and then pretty book pictures were decoupaged on. I didn't want to buy a book house so I decided to make my own cardboard one from some boxes we had around home.

Then a little bit of glue underneath and on top of some book pages.

Let the glue dry and then I put some varnish on top to protect it a little.

And my birdhouse is complete. I will be sorting out some other crafts with my little golden books in the next week or so.
