Data Sets on Test Score and Quantity-based and Quality-adjusted Human Capital

This data set is accompanying the paper by Lee, Hanol and Lee, Jong-Wha, 2024, “Educational quality and disparities in income and growth across countries,” forthcoming in Journal of Economic Growth.

Download full data sets on estimated test scores from 1970 to 2015, available in four-year intervals for 83 countries. Additionally, access complete data sets on estimated quantity-based and quality-adjusted human capital from 1985 to 2015, provided in five-year intervals for the same 83 countries.

The data set includes two measures of test score data: one constructed using interpolation/extrapolation methods and an alternative measure developed using machine learning techniques. Furthermore, two measures of quality-adjusted human capital data are included: a baseline constructed assuming estimated returns to educational quality and quantity of 7.5% and 9.5%, respectively, and an alternative measure based on an upper-bound rate of return to educational quality of 14.7%.
