Challenge #235 - Sew Good

Theme Challenges are my favourites, and this week's theme is a lot of fun! Thank goodness stitched dies are a thing though, because, without needling you, it might have been a lot harder without them. This thread is Sewing and Stitching! I know there is a lot of overlap between the stamping and quilting communities, so I'm looking forward to what you've got in store for us for this theme, but at the very least, I'm sure you've either got at least one stitched die or a sewing machine you can use to add some real zigzags!

How did our Design Team sew up their projects:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI235 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Winners for Challenge #234 - Flying in Circles

Thanks to everyone who got cooking with our recipe challenge over the last two weeks, and included all the recipe ingredients in their projects! Though the ingredients were the same, the results were as varied as soup to nuts!! The Design Team enjoyed sampling each of them, but then we had the tough job of picking the winners. Here they are:

Our Top Pick is: Malina G.

Malina's butterfly (one of the ingredients) is created with a die using the shattered glass technique, which makes it look as though it is breaking off multi-coloured pieces of glass and dropping them as it flies away. It's a stunning effect, especially backed with circles of vellum and patterned paper!

Our Featured Artist is: Tenia Nelson

At first glance, you'd wonder if something so clean has all the recipe elements, but as you look closer you see that everything is there, including the butterfly. Tenia has just kept her design cool and understated in the best possible way. The Design Team fell in love with the urban look of her paper choices and the unique collage effect that ensued. The small pink butterfly was the perfect finishing touch.

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their site:

Challenge #234 - Flying in Circles!

Design Team member Jane has kitchen tested a new Recipe Challenge for you today and I know you're going to love it - there is such scope for the imagination! The main design element seems to be circles, but will they be separate or combined with the other elements? It's up to you? How will you fit in the punch or die cut, the patterned paper, the birthday greeting and the butterfly? You can get really creative with this! You have to include all the elements in the recipe on your creation, but how you do that is up to you! Have fun!!

Let's see how the Design Team has combined their elements:

Winners for Challenge #233 - Hues in Twos

It turns out it's darn hard to pick just one favourite colour duo. Most people chose one of their favourites, or their current favourite, or their favourite at this time of year, reserving their right to choose another favourite at any other time, like the next day!! But you made a valiant effort and you created some lovely projects with those Hues in Twos! Now we have to come up with winners and here they are:

We had two Top Picks this week:

Our First Top Pick is: Heather Heroldt

Heather's precision stamping of the intricate tiles in her entry really caught our attention, as well as her eye-catching duo of Granny Apple Green and Gorgeous Grape, a combo made in heaven! This intricate mosaic is otherwise clean and sharp and a treat for the eyes! Well stamped, Heather!

Our Second Top Pick is: dj at Sendable Sentiments

dj created a really adorable baby card with the use of a simple layout and a beautiful colour combo of teal and brown. The patterned paper added variety and the little booties on the twine were perfectly located on the page for balance! The different fonts in the sentiment, as well as the contrast between die cut and stamped also added to the visual appeal of dj's project!

Our first Featured Artist is: Jen Mitchell

Jen has created a beautiful pastel CAS card for her entry. Her yellow and grey colour duo is so peaceful, and the die cuts she has chosen are perfect for those colours. The composition is sophisticated and pleasing! The use of the same die cuts in vellum allowing the other colours to show through adds an extra layer to the layout! So elegant!
