Supernova Quilt

I finished up another WIP!!!  This one has been sitting in a drawer for at least a year.  But done!!  Here's the Supernova Quilt, designed by Freshly Pieced.

A Quilting Chick - Supernova Quilt

This quilt has had quite the journey.  At first, my aunt and I were participating in a friendship swap, where we would each make two blocks a month and send one to each other, thus getting two different versions of the block each month.

My aunt went on a sewing craze and made 6 blocks, then decided she didn't want to do this version anymore and just started a new version for her husband's Christmas gift so she gave them to me.

They lingered in a drawer for a long time until I pulled them out last week, arranged them, and put them together, and added a few borders.  Done!!!

Design Wall Monday

Wow!  I feel like I got a lot of sewing done this week but when I look back at the pictures I don't see much.  But here's what I've been working on.  First up is the Texas Roadtrip QAL.  I did the El Paso block (over to the left representing the railroad), the block for Midland/Odessa (the oil rig), and the piecing for the third quadrant.

I was so excited that we are about done with the third quadrant and about to start the fourth and final quadrant.  But just like Texas, that quadrant is huge and will take the entire month of July!!  But I'm super excited to get to my part of the state.

Next up are last week's and this week's blocks for the Austen Family Album. This one is from this week and it went together so quickly.

And here's the one from last week.  I'm just loving these 30's prints.  We are finished with week 13 out of 36 weeks so 1/3 of the way there.  I'm really thinking of using a nice yellow to set them.  We'll see when I get it laid out.

And finally I finished up the July blocks for the Supernova Friendship Block Swap.  Here are my first two blocks together.  I haven't gotten mine from my swap partner yet but they'll get here soon and we'll see how they all work together!

So that's all I've been up to this week!  What are you working on???

Design Wall Monday!

Okay, my design wall is still full with the purple star blocks so I am going to show you what I've been working on over the last week.  Here's the Union Jack blocks (from Mc'Calls Quilting, Jan/Feb 2014)...

Then we have the blocks for the Supernova Friendship Block Swap...

And I got started on the Deep in the Heart of Texas Roadtrip Quilt Along...

I cannot wait to put together a the block for Dallas to fill in part of that hole.  It came out today.  This quilt along just started this weekend so plenty of time to join in.

So what's on your design wall?

WIP Wednesday

This week has been all about trying to get my quilt alongs caught up or a little ahead so I'm ready for the new ones that start on the 1st.  :)  How's that for overloading myself???

Over the weekend, I caught up the Jane Austen quilt along and the last few days has been trying to get my blocks ready for the Supernova Friendship Block Swap.  I just finished up the first two blocks tonight:

I'll be honest here.  These fabrics are WAY out of my comfort zone.  I'm not too sure how I feel about the blocks to be honest.  I send one to my partner and keep the other.  My son, who was with me when I was shopping for the fabric, claimed this one.  I sent him a pic of the first block and he was thrilled.  I guess that's all that matters, right?

I'm doing this same block swap with my aunt and for that one we're doing browns and turquoise/teals with a cream background.  Closer to my style.  We'll see how those come out in the next few days.

If there is anyone else following this swap, the original directions give you cutting instructions for the color fabrics as a per block thing but the background is all cut at once.  If you're like me, and only needing to cut on a per block basis, you'll need (8) 3" squares and (8) 3 x 5-1/2" rectangles PER BLOCK.  So to do two, you'll need 16 each.

So that brings us up to date.  What are y'all working on?
