Latest TV Obsessions

Sometimes I wish I liked watching TV less. Then I remember how fun it is, and I take it back. I envy those people who would rather curl up with an intellectually stimulating book than watch a reality TV show. I want to be like you when I grow up. When someone mentions a good book that's a "must read", I kindly tell them that if it's that good, it will be made into a movie, and I'll catch it in the theaters.  While I'm sitting here waiting to grow up and discover my love for literature, I will keep right on watching those fabulous television shows.

I thought I would share my latest favorites in case any of you are looking for a good show to get into this summer. We all know TV kind of dies down in the summer, so here are some favorites you can catch on Amazon Prime/Netflix/Hulu.

Downton Abbey- Parker and I are obsessed. So well cast. So witty. So good.
Survivor- We still watch Survivor, and we will until the day it goes off the air. Every season pulls us in.
The Bachelorette- Trashy and ridiculous? Yes. Entertaining? Yes.
Dance Moms- I'm only slightly embarrassed to admit I watch this show, but I love it. I loved going to my little sisters' dance recitals when we were kids, so watching the girls dance takes me back to that. I love little Chloe. She reminds me so much of my sister Natalie at that age!
The Big Bang Theory- This show just never disappoints. Every episode is funny.
Friends- Always and forever. Yes, it's been off the air for 10 years, but I still watch the old ones and will always find them so entertaining. The downside? Watching them with Parker makes him realize I don't have any of my own jokes. I might as well be the female version of Chandler Bing to him. I'll take it.

Thankful

November brings Thanksgiving, which reminds us all to be thankful for what we have. It's an awesome time for reflection to remember all of the gifts God has blessed us with.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."- James 1:17

We all have so much that we take for granted. I know I do. I remember to thank God for my family, for friends all across the world, and for His love for me, but I forget to thank Him for so much. One of those things is my health. When I'm healthy, I completely take it for granted. Being healthy is "normal" for me, and I know I am blessed for that. It's only when I get sick that I remember that good health is a gift and a blessing, not a right or a state of normalcy. It shouldn't take something bad happening, like getting sick, for me to remember that health is a gift from above. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have gotten a stomach bug. And then BAM, out of the blue I came down with a bad one earlier this month for no apparent reason. It was a miserable 48 hours, but it reminded me how blessed I am that this is a rare occurrence. I really think God used this to keep me in check, and I can honestly say I am glad it happened. This Thanksgiving has reminded me to be thankful for the gift of a healthy body and healthy loved ones.

I asked my sponsors this month what they are thankful for. Be sure to check these amazing ladies out!

Anywhere In The World

If you could go anywhere in the world and money were no option, where would you go? My answer may not make a lot of sense, because I would go somewhere I have already been. I got the opportunity to go on a leadership trip glorified vacation with 8 fellow students to Greece the summer before my junior year of college, and it was the most amazing experience. I was there 2 weeks and never spent more than 2 nights in one place. I got the opportunity to visit Athens, Meteora, Patras, Nafplion, Santorini, Delphi, and a few others. Santorini and Meteora stuck out to me, and I have been itching to go back ever since! Parker and I were just dating when I went on my trip, but I couldn't help but think how amazing it would have been for him to join me. If I could go anywhere in the world and money/time were no option, I would grab Parker and jet set to Greece without thinking twice about it. It's such a gorgeous place filled with rich culture and history. It was truly the experience of a lifetime, and I would love to do it again! A couple of throwbacks from that wonderful trip back in 2009...

I asked my sponsors where they would go if they could go anywhere in the world, and these are the fabulous places they came up with:

My Favorite Picture

I am such a picture person. Even before I had a blog, I was the one who always had the camera out trying to document anything and everything. Fortunately, Parker appreciates this instead of being annoyed by it. Through the thousands of pictures I have taken over the years, this is my all-time favorite picture. Okay, this is actually three pictures crammed into one, but it encompasses our relationship and love for each other perfectly. We love to be silly and try not to take ourselves too seriously. Underneath it all, we are both so goofy and dorky. We wouldn't have been us if we would have fed each other the wedding cake nicely! I hope that no matter what life brings, 50 years from now, we will still be laughing.

I asked my sponsors and swappers to share their favorite pictures as well. I think you can learn so much about someone from their favorite picture!

My favorite picture these days is this sweet moment between my two favorite boys and it is a perfect representation of our life.  Yes, my husband prefers the floor and old sleeping bag to a couch and plush blanket.  And yes, Bruce will happily lay by his side while he studies on said floor. This is our simple life and I'm loving it! -Emily, Just The Stew Of Us

The three people in this picture have been a constant source of strength and encouragement not only in the good days, but in the dark ones, reminding me that the Lord is indeed close by. This picture is a favorite as I am reminded and overwhelmed with God's goodness to me. -Rebecca, Caravan Sonnet

The hubby and I did a makeshift photoshoot behind our apartment. I love it because, even though I am not a model and we are both amateur photographers, I love the light and just about everything in this photo. The background, and the dry bushes just give a little something different. Its also special cause my hubby took it! -Diane, DD Kimball Road

This photo of my sisters Brittany and Brandi and me, taken at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, SC, is special to me because I remember seeing "The Notebook" and "North and South" as a child and telling myself that someday I'd visit Charleston and Boone Hall Plantation in particular. It's been two years since my visit and this photo is still my desktop background because it's a reminder that dreams can come true. -Bailey, Becoming Bailey

This is a picture of the sunrise in South Africa when I went there in January 2011. It's my favorite because it captures the beauty of South Africa, and it definitely is a piece of God's beauty. -Britney, The Quiet Place

Sponsor for Faith

Meet Faith

Faith is 6 years old and lives in Kenya.
Her favorite color is white, and her favorite game is hide and seek.
She lives with her grandmother and younger brother.
She wants to be a nurse when she grows up.
Faith is now a part of our lives, and we can't wait to get to know her more.

We decided to sponsor Faith through Compassion International earlier this month. Honestly this was going to be Parker's Christmas present, but why wait? For just $38 a month, we get to help clothe, feed, provide education, and most importantly help her realize how much Jesus loves her. $38 to us is dinner and a movie on a Friday night, but for her, it's life changing. Faith waited 243 days for a sponsor, and just 2 days before her 6th birthday, God called on us to be that sponsor.

We are so excited and pray we can be a light in this little girl's life. I wrote our first letter to her earlier this week, and I can't wait for someone to read it to her. We told her how loved she is by us, how much Jesus loves her, and how special He thinks she is.

I have decided to now accept sponsors on my blog, and 100% of anything earned will go straight to sponsoring Faith and sending her love gifts. If you would like to help Faith or just want to sponsor Anchors Aweigh, I would love to have you! I will do everything I can to make the sponsorship productive for you, and you can check out the details below or in my Sponsors tab.

If you don't want to sponsor but still want to help, that's great! Please join us in praying for Faith. Pray for her health and well-being, pray for her grandmother and younger brother whom she lives with, but most importantly, pray that Faith feels the love of Jesus and accepts Him into her heart.
