How To Wear Camel with Red and Leopard Print

For this week's fashion post, I am sharing a  top that will be "new" to you because I haven't shown it on my blog yet, but actually it's "old" because it has been hanging in my closet for almost a year.  I bought this top when our local "Younkers" was going out of business.  I only spent a few dollars on it, and I haven't worn it much because it kind of has a boxy fit.  It does have lots of other redeeming values like the beautiful embroidery and the pretty flutter sleeves, so I keep it around for those cool/warm transitional days.

I've always been a fan of camel, red, and leopard print together so I thought this new/old top would work well with that color print combo.

I paired the pretty embroidered top with some other new/old items from my closet.  A classic red pea coat, colored brown denim, a brown hobo bag, and leopard flats.

A classic pea coat can be a great investment because they never go out of style.  I bought mine years ago at JCPenney.  I don't wear it much because our winters are too cold for pea coats (we really need long down-filled parkas here) but it's nice to have around for when the temperatures are a bit warmer.  It was in the 40's the day we took these pictures!  That's a heat wave for us in Wisconsin!

The pants are by Style and Co. from Macy's.  I turned the cuff in so I'd have a shorter length to wear with flats:  that is a trick one of my readers taught me and it has been a lifesaver.  If you just cuff your pants the usual way (to the outside) it makes your legs look shorter and heavier, but if you cuff the pants to the inside, it does not.  They really do stay up and do not come undone.  A shorter, ankle length pants looks so much more flattering with flats than a longer leg length;  so if you wear flats, I highly recommend cuffing the pants to make them shorter.

The top is a thin knit and is see-through so I wear a beige camisole with it.  It's longer in back than it is in front and it has a slit on the sides.  I love the length of this top.

The embroidery is just beautiful in this top and I love the unique flutter sleeves.  It's a great top to wear during the transitional months.

My earrings were a Christmas gift from my daughter.  I had them on my Amazon wish list and I will link them below.  They are so well made and very inexpensive.  What I love about them is that they are as light as a feather so they don't pull my ear lobe down like a lot of other heavy statement earrings.  You also get several different styles with your order!

My leopard flats are super old, I purchased them from Target.  The bag is also a new Christmas gift (from my son) off of my Amazon wish list, and I linked it up below.

Grandma & Me: "Winter Blues"

I am back from Holiday Break!  I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years. We attended a wonderful Christmas Eve service at our church and we had a lot of great meals!   I had all my children and grandchildren home with me for a full week; we had so much fun just hanging out at the house.  It was the first Christmas that Alethea was really old enough to appreciate gifts.  I gave her a "Princess Jasmine" toddler doll.  Oh my!  If you could have seen the expression on her face when she opened it.  It was priceless!  She started singing "A Whole New World" once she realized who the doll was.  It was so cute!
My kids gave me some nice gifts from my Amazon wish list I can't wait to share with you.  Hubby got me a new Mac!  After years of using a MacBook Pro lap top I went back to a desktop.  I still have my Apple iPad to use when traveling or when I want to lounge.  It's nice to have a desktop again because at my age I need the bigger screen! 🤣

We did two photo shoots with the kids when they were visiting:  today's  "Winter Blues" one and a "Valentines" shoot that I will show next month.  As usual, it was a challenge photographing both a toddler and a baby at the same time, but I think we got some cute shots! We used lots of props, and snuggled, giggled, sang a few songs, and made lots of funny noises to keep the kids entertained and smiling!

For our "Winter Blues" photo shoot, we all wore blue and white.  I wore a new cozy periwinkle sweater from TJMaxx with my white jeans and silver loafers.  Alethea wore a pretty blue T-shirt from JCPenney that has ruffles on the chest and sleeves and flecks of silver glitter scattered throughout.  She paired her blue top with a sparkly, white tulle skirt and silver shoes.  Atticus is wearing a new outfit I purchased for him for Christmas.  It's a super cute set from Carters that includes an adorable onesie, sweat pants, and a jacket.

The jacket has a hood and zips closed.  I think he will get a lot of use out of it as it's so neutral he can wear it as a spring coat with lots of other things.

I just love the little panda bear peeking out from the pocket.

On one of the legs is a lion, isn't he cute?

The onesie is white and says "One of a kind".  I love that!

We used pine cones and these pretty snowflakes off my Christmas tree as props for this winter photo shoot.

Alethea always looks so beautiful in blue because of her gorgeous blue eyes!

Atticus's eyes are blue too, but a much deeper, darker blue than Alethea.  He also looks great in blue!

When I looked at these photos I couldn't believe they were my grand babies.  They look so different than me!  They both have such pale skin and blue eyes, and I have dark hair, dark skin, and brown eyes, but they are my grand babies and I love them to pieces!

Alethea loves playing with the "magical pocket door" of this guest room.

Alethea is 2 1/2 years old.  She talks constantly!  It's so fun to converse with her.  The things she comes up with!

Atticus is 5 1/2 months.  He smiles, giggles, laughs, and is still the most content "chill" baby.  Whenever he sees you or you show any attention his way, he bursts into a huge smile!  He really started "babbling" the week he was visiting us too.  We wondered if it was because of all the extra conversation he was hearing.

It's always sad to say goodbye when we part, but I was happy to have a clean house again and have things return to normal too.  We will be seeing a lot more of them in the next few months than we usually do, so it wasn't as hard to say goodbye as it usually is.

I couldn't find my "new" sweater on-line, but be sure to check your TJMaxx stores.  It is such a soft and comfy sweater, and I love the shade of blue.  Alethea's clothes are all old, but I will link to similar items below.  Atticus cute outfit is still available at Macys!

A Classic Cable Turtleneck

It is still cold and snowy in Wisconsin, so this is what I wore to a dentist appointment and an afternoon of shopping last week.

Last Christmas  JCPenney had a sale on their St. John Bay's Turtleneck Sweaters for only $14.99 so I bought two of them:  one in black and one in white.  The cable knit, the colors, and the cut were very classic and I knew I would get a lot of use out of them in the years to come.

Because I spent most of the day running from a car to a building, I didn't wear anything else but the turtleneck underneath my coat:  it served as a base for my entire outfit.

My brown jeans are old.  They are by Style & Co, sold at Macys.

Wearing black and brown together used to be taboo, but now it's actually fashionable.  I just love the look of brown and black together;  especially with my coloring.

For outerwear, I chose my faux leather bomber jacket with a fur collar, also from JCP (old).  Because the sweater is so warm, a lighter jacket was all I needed for a thirty degree day.

I added a bomber hat because it goes so well with my jacket.

It is still so snowy and messy outside,  I wore my new lace-up combat boots from Charlotte Russe.

I really hope it warms up soon so I can share some spring outfits!  I'm anxious to wear some different colors and some new dresses I bought!  It might be in the fifties on Thursday...keeping my fingers crossed.

Grandma & Me Shearling Vests

At the end of February I went to Illinois to visit my children and grandchildren for a week.  We did a lot of shopping while I was there because I was looking for items for my guest room renovation.  On one of our shopping trips, Alethea and I wore matching outfits.  I know these pieces look very similar, but I did not buy them as a set from a "Mommy and Me" store.  I just got lucky and found very similar items.

Alethea's outfit came as a 3-piece from Macy's.  It's is by Carters.

If you need a cute set for a baby girl, it's on sale right now, for only $14.43 but hurry, they are almost sold out!

My shearling vest I bought years ago, but the burgundy pants, top, and boots are all new this season.

The pants are a.n.a Skinny Fit Jeggings.  They are super comfortable, and I love the slanted zipper pockets.  I found my a.n.a 3/4 Sleeve Round Floral Lace Up Ruffle Blouse at JCP on a clearance rack for only $10.59 with coupon!  When I found it I thought I won the lottery because it was almost an exact match to Alethea's shirt.

I bought the top just so I could match Alethea but I ended up really liking it and wore it three times during my week in Illinois.  It has so many nice details:  the ruffle sleeves, the lace up neckline, and the fabric is very thin so it's cool and comfortable for me.

I did wear a camisole underneath because it's slightly see-thru and a little low cut for my taste.

I wore my new Lace-Up Combat Boots from Charlotte Russe.  They are so comfortable and were perfect for all the walking we did all week long!

When they stayed on her feet, Alethea wore these cute grey shoes I bought her for Christmas from Amazon.

Alethea and I also wore matching white beanies!  I bought Alethea's beanie from Macy's;  mine is years old and I'm not sure where I got it from.

Alethea is starting to pull herself up and stand a bit on her own; but you really have to watch her because she can quickly lose her balance and topple over.

She is at such a fun age right now.  She is so inquisitive of her entire world.  She loved watching this beautiful, colorful carousal at the shopping mall.

Alethea is such a joyful baby!  She loves people, and always has a beautiful smile ready to share.  And she is so smart too!  I know I'm a bit biased, but I called her "Genius Baby" all week because I was so awestruck with her intellect!

Alethea is not use to chasing all over town all day, so she fell fast asleep in her stroller while we shopped.  I love the expression on her face in the picture below.  It looks like she is concentrating on something in her sleep.

This is my outfit without the vest.  It was very warm in Chicago (well, warm to this Wisconsin gal!  It was between 40 and 50 degrees most days), so I only usually wore the vest outside.

It was so wonderful to spend a full week with my granddaughter and get reacquainted with her.  The last time I saw her was Christmas.  I don't think she remembered me, but we very quickly bonded in the short time I was there.  She seemed to really, really like me.  I kept asking Ashley if she was like this with everyone, and Ashley said "She's always friendly, but I think she likes you a lot because you like her so much!"  It's as if she just knew how much I loved and adored her!

Grandma and Me Holiday Fashion

I had my sweet granddaughter Alethea stay in my home for an entire week over Thanksgiving.  She did very well, and allowed her mom to get some much needed rest, waking up only once every night. It must have been that fresh country air!

I took advantage of having Alethea home with me to do a holiday fashion shoot.  We both wore burgundy velvet, but I must admit, Alethea definitely steals the show in her beautiful dress!

Alethea's dress had gorgeous pearls attached to her dress, so I echoed the pearl theme by wearing a pearl necklace and earrings.

Since Alethea is the star of this post, I will show her pictures first.  Isn't she just gorgeous?  She is at the age where she smiles and is starting to laugh.  I just love this age in babies!

I ordered this dress for Alethea from Macy's and I couldn't be more pleased with it.  The pearl and silver accents are gorgeous and so elegant.  And I love how soft and fluid the velvet is;  perfect for a baby!

My velvet tee I purchased for $9.00 at JCPenney.  It is the exact same one as the one I wore in THIS POST, except this one is burgundy and not blush.  I absolutely loves these tees, they are so comfortable yet classy and elegant at the same time.

For my holiday outfit, I chose black dress pants and comfortable black suede wedges.  I actually wore this outfit on Thanksgiving Day and even cooked in the kitchen with it (I did put on an apron during the messy parts of cooking).  Our house was so hot that day, the weather was unseasonably warm, and we had both the wood stove and oven going all day.  At one point the thermostat read in the 80's! The short sleeves definitely helped keep me cool!

I will probably wear this outfit again over the Christmas/New Years Holidays.  It was so cool and comfortable.  If your the mom or grandma in the family who spends most of the day in the kitchen, yet you want to still look nice, I highly recommend these velvet tees!  They come in a variety of colors too!

I wore a burgundy lip stain so I could give Alethea kisses all day and not leave lipstick stains on her plump cheeks!  :)  My pearl earrings are from JCP.

The pants are by Worthington (old).  They have unique zippered side pockets.

Finally, here are the professional photos of our holiday wear and links to where you can find them.
