Welcome to my 2021 Christmas Home Tour! This year, I followed my husband's suggestion and chose to decorate the Christmas Tree in red and white! I'm absolutely THRILLED with the result. The whole house looks so festive and cheery with the bright red. I love the way the red pops against all the white walls. And I think the red adds a Scandinavian flair to my 120+ year old home. I usually change the colors of the tree every year, but I'm loving this so much I think it will be a keeper
Now you're probably wondering "How can she afford to change her decorations every year?" Easy peasy! I wait till AFTER Christmas when ornaments and ribbon are 75% off. If you have the basics (gold, silver or white), then you can just change the color by buying a cheap tub of colorful ornaments after Christmas. Ribbon too is usually greatly marked down after Christmas. I know the selection dwindles fast, especially if it's a trendy color, but you might be surprised with what you will find.
For this year's tree, I bought the red ribbon and red ornaments after Christmas two years ago but never used them. I already owned all the white ornaments and berries. The only items I purchased were two new spools of white ribbon because I gave all my white ribbon away to a friend to use in her son's wedding.
I have a staircase in this room, so I used the same colors I did in the tree for the staircase garland.
Looking at these photos, I probably could have added more red. Hmm, maybe after Christmas I'll see if there are any red florals on sale.
In the corner at the base of the stairs, I have a metal stand where I added a wire white star, a "Joy" decoration, a pretty pair of white skates ornament, and a white floral pick.
The living room where the tree is looks into the dining room. I continued the red and white color scheme here as well.
I love how the chandelier turned out: very Scandinavian looking. Aren't the red bows the cutest finishing touch?
To create this look, I tied a simple red bow from every light bulb. For the base of the chandelier, I filled it with greenery then I added red bulbs, berries, and more red ribbon. I also added white berries and florals and finished the whole chandelier with a dusting of flocking.
I wrapped the doorway to the dining room in garland dripping with red and white florals and ornaments. I also flocked the garland. There is a swag on the doorway between the living room and dining room. For the piano I placed Christmas photos of our most recent Christmas photo shoot (post coming soon) and my Christmas tiered tray. On the dining room table I laid red placemats and a bowl filled with red and gold ornaments.
On top of the other dining hutch, I placed more greenery, with a "Noel" and angel figure. Inside the hutch is our Christmas china.
Have A Great Day! Amy

Thank you so much!
DeleteOh I do love all these pops of red against the white! A very classic Christmas look that is just lovely. I am so envious of your stair garland... I feel like I need to watch a few tutorials on how to make mine look better.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Stair garlands are the hardest to do. I always dread them.
DeleteI too love these colors for Christmas, but my kids still want it all colorful and I let them choose as long as they are still living at home :-)
ReplyDeleteI too rarely buy Christmas decorations at full price but need to stay away from the after Christmas sales now because we have too much stuff already that I just can't part with!
I love your bow accents on the chandelier but would be worried that they'd be too close to the light bulbs..
The grandkids are going to love the DIY nativity! Such a cute idea!
I have boxes and boxes of Christmas decor I don't even use every year because I have so much, and I like to do different things every year. I'm thinking of trying that multi colored next year...if I can find the ornaments at 75% off ha ha! I'm not worried about the bows burning at all. I tied the knot well below the bulb, over the gold metal part.
DeleteGosh, I just love the tree Amy. That's what we did when we wanted new Christmas ornaments since Hobby Lobby always has such great deals after Christmas. The red and white is absolutely gorgeous and so festive,

DeleteYour decorations look so lovely and you're right, the pops of red are wonderful! We always add new decorations every year - the kids (and sometimes us adults, ha!) will make some to add to either our trees or my parent's tree. There are decorations on my parent's tree I made when I was younger than my boys are now, still going strong, haha! It means it's the same decorations each year but it's fun having all those memories attached!
ReplyDeleteHope that you had a wonderful weekend! We went to a couple of fun Christmas parties :)

DeleteIt looks really beautiful! I love using red and white at Christmas. I have never used white ribbon but it looks stunning. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYou have a lovely home to begin with. I love all of the white walls, but I just couldn't handle it in our house! Isn't that weird? You definitely have the touch when it comes to decorating!

Thank you. Yes, I think it's easier decorating a home with good bones to begin with. As for the white walls, I get it. Even though "all white everything" is trending, I think it works better in some houses than others. There is so much wood detail in my house with the tin ceilings, the crown moldings, the paneling, etc., that it adds a lot of texture and detail so the walls can be plain white.
DeleteVery pretty. I especially love what you did with your chandlier and door frame. Simply gorgeous. I love the pops of red and it's nice that your tree is beautiful but it does not take up an entire room. Thanks for sharing at #omhgww. Pinned. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The tree is a slim tree made for smaller spaces.
DeleteMerry Christmas Amy - your home looks so lovely !:-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Merry Christmas to you too!
DeleteOh Amy, your decorating belongs on a magazine cover. Absolutely gorgeous!

DeleteAmy, I thoroughly enjoyed this year's Christmas home tour. Your home is lovely and your Christmas decorations are inspirational. I did browse your 2020 & 2019 Christmas home tours and enjoyed those too.
ReplyDeleteYour renovation of the living room to a guest room, and renovation of your pass through to the stairs room gave me some ideas for when our back porch is remodeled in February.
Thank you for sharing your lovely home, and beautiful ideas with us. May you and your family have a Merry Christmas!
~Lisa, Visiting from Grammy's Grid Christmas (#50)
thank you! I'm glad my post gave you some ideas. I'll be over to visit soon.
DeleteCONGRATS! Your post is FEATURED at my Unlimited Link Party 64!
ReplyDeleteOh that's awesome Dee! Thanks so much.
DeleteAmy, you have so many wonderful areas to decorate! It was fun to see the dining room, and how it relates to the rest of the house. I like to buy my ribbon on sale, and it might take a few years before it gets used :) When I pull the holiday boxes down, it's like a present to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to another year of your pretty home and garden inspiration when the FWF party starts up again this Friday, January 7th.
Hope to see you there!
Happy New Year!
Hugs,
Rachelle
Thank you so much. Ribbon is so expensive, we have to buy it on sale "in case we need it someday" right? I have so much ribbon it's ridiculous!
