Case summary:
Jonathan, a 7½ year old boy, has spastic cerebral palsy. His verbal, written and physical activities are disabled. He uses augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. Occupational therapist (OT), physical therapist (PT) and speech language pathologists (SLPs)are now involved in his treatment.
To review:
The reason for the involvement of PT and OT along with the speech therapist in helping Jonathan to use the new device.

Explanation of Solution
AAC is a device that makes it easy for Jonathan to communicate via pre-programmed words or phrases by just touching a point on a screen. To access this device on a wheelchair, the roles of OT and PT are as equally important as that of thespeech-language pathologist (SLP)because their interprofessional collaborationwould provide Jonathan with the communication system to meet his requirements.
The role of the speech therapist is limited to programming a device and checking the vocabulary. He is involved in the identification of the best device for Johnathan. The OT and the PT will take care of the switch placement, supportive positioning for Jonathan, and the device mounting on his wheelchair. They will find a reliable way for him to access the device on his wheelchair whenever and wherever he needs it.
