Halsey Earns No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 with 'hopeless fountain kingdom'
Pop singer-songwriter Halsey notches her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as her second full-length studio effort, hopeless fountain kingdom, debuts atop the list. The set, which was released on June 2 through Astralwerks Records, earned 106,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 76,000 were in traditional album sales.The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new June 24-dated chart (where Halsey debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, June 13.

Halsey has already proved that she knows how to write a damn good album. That’s apparent with her first studio album Badlands. The 22-year- old clearly has ideas of grandeur when it comes to her music, especially in the sense of what she wants it to do and the story she wants it to tell. With that in mind, it’s no wonder she was able to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump completely with her second studio album hopeless fountain kingdom.hopeless fountain kingdom at times feels so much larger than just an album. Leading up to the release Halsey not only announced the album artwork with a scavenger hunt, but also even had newspapers created and delivered to fans with the track list. Altogether, at times it feels like a full on art project as opposed to just an album.

In the past few years, Halsey has made an impressive mark on the charts. The singer’s debut album Badlands reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200, and the vocals she contributed to the Chainsmokers’ “Closer” helped the track own the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for weeks.The album title, announced in early March, suggested that the singer is still tumblr-core, and her recently released album single “Strangers” featuring Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui is easily her best song yet.

Halsey released the track listing for her anticipated second album, hopeless fountain kingdom, today (Apr. 28), revealing that she has collaborations in store with Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui, Cashmere Cat and Migos' Quavo.In an Instagram post announcing the details, she also shared that some fans across America woke up "to a newspaper on their doorstep that features some clues and hints about hopeless fountain kingdom."
The clues were seemingly hidden in a paper named The Kingdom Times, with headlines such as "What Happened at the Orpheus Tunnel?" and "A New Kind of Peace, A New Kind of War."

Born in New Jersey and adopted by New York City, Halsey has a lingering grittiness that translates beautifully to her performance. It is impossible to watch Halsey and not feel something; she moves so fluidly from one emotion to another, savoring every moment she has on stage.
