ATP! Album Review: Lights - Skin&Earth

Lights’ newest undertaking was already impressive before listening to it. A concept album that ties in with a comic series that she also wrote and drew? That’s pretty intense. And a downright awesome idea. Lights is truly going all out for this and it definitely shows.

The Canadian electro-pop star's voice has always had this atmospheric, ethereal sound to it and the concept and songs on Skin&Earth take it to new heights. “Morphine” and album closer “Almost Had Me” are as beautifully haunting as they come, while still somehow making you want to dance (or at least tap your toes) at parts.

Lights Releases New Song "Skydiving"

Lights has unveiled the video for "Skydiving," a new song from her upcoming album Skin&Earth, which can be viewed below.

The song is the follow-up to her recently released single "Giants," and corresponds directly with Issue 1 of the album's companion comic book series - Skin&Earth #1 - which is on sale now via Dynamite Entertainment.

PVRIS Announce North American Fall Tour with Lights

PVRIS have announced they will be heading out on tour later this year. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to The Ally Coalition in support of LGBTQ equality.

If that wasn't enough, support will come from Lights! Tickets go on sale this Friday (June 9th).

Lights Announces New Album & Comic Book Series, 'Skin&Earth'

Lights has announced details of her next project, Skin&Earth – an album and comic book series.

The digital intro issue will be released in May, with the first print issue – Skin&Earth #1 – on sale July 12 via Dynamite Entertainment.

The monthly comic book series (written and illustrated by Lights) will kick off just before Comic-Con International, with new music accompanying each issue and leading into the Fall 2017 release of Skin&Earth, Lights’ next full-length studio album on Warner Bros. Records.

You have to wonder what it’s like for an artist who is obliged to write a new record. Inspiration is fickle; it doesn’t run on record company deadlines.

When it came to tracking down that inspiration for Lights’ new album Little Machines, the musician struggled. Eventually she began writing by retracing her youth. And you can tell, too. Tracks like “Running With The Boys,” “Slow Down” and “Child” stare right back at the past, contemplate the process of aging and take the album through an exploratory reflection between life as a child and life as an adult.
