Winter Magic Quilt in Christmas Morning Fabrics

Today I'm sharing a version of the Winter Magic quilt pattern - a fat quarter friendly Christmas quilt pattern that I released last year.

I have to admit something... this is not exactly a new quilt. I finished it last year in November, and then we used it and loved it.

But I did finally manage take some photos of it, and with the Winter Magic pattern being the $5 pattern of the month I thought you'd like to see the pattern sewn up in different fabrics than what is shown on the pattern cover.

The Winter Magic pattern is a medallion-style quilt, but it is not as difficult to piece. I really love the look of medallion quilts but sometimes getting everything to line up just right can be tricky.

So I kept the look of a medallion quilt, but created a better way to put it together!

Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book

Hey there - I have a finished quilt, a new book, AND a giveaway to share with you all today!

My friend Melissa Corry has written a new book called Fast & Fun Lap Quilts and I'm delighted to be a part of the book tour.

Confession time: I own all of Melissa's previous books (I'm a big fan) and I really like her style. She's a talented designer who has a knack for designing quilts that look complicated but really aren't.

Make Believe Quilt Pattern

Well this one has been a long time in coming! I have a new pattern to share with you today, but technically it's about six years old.

This is Make Believe - a precut friendly pattern in five sizes.

Six years ago I made a version of this quilt just for fun and shared it here on my blog. Since then I've had many, many requests for the pattern.

So I recently opened up my file of old notes from that first quilt, worked some magical quilt math (abracadabra!) and created the Make Believe pattern.

Tessa Quilt

I finished up a sweet little baby quilt last week and today I get to share it as a part of my turn on the book tour for the new Precut Parade quilt book by Jessica Dayon.

Tessa baby quilt found on A Bright Corner quilt blog

The pattern is called Tessa - it's originally written as a large throw size quilt (63" x 77") but I chose to make mine baby sized, with just four star blocks and nine of the plus sign blocks.

This size would also work as a wall hanging. Wouldn't it be great in Christmas colors, or reds and blues for summertime?

Star Trails Quilt in Tulip Tango Fabrics

Well hello and happy Friday! I wish I could call this next quilt a recent finish, but this one has been done since July and it's taken me this long to get some good photos of it and add it here to my website.

Dancing Leaves Pattern in Quilts and More Magazine

Hello there - I have a quick share today! With the weather getting cooler and the leaves changing colors I'm in the mood to start some fall projects!

This Dancing Leaves quilt is in the Fall 2022 issue of Quilts & More magazine, and it would be the perfect fall project to work on this month!

My idea for this quilt originally came about by playing with a classic Maple Leaf block.

But then I as I was working with different quilt layouts, I found that I really wanted more movement to the quilt. The regular leaf blocks were so....linear!

So I went back to the design board and played with the block to make each leaf at a different angle. Much better! The instructions step you through it and it's not tricky at all.

Star Trails Quilt in Nantucket Summer Fabrics

I'm trying to get caught up on sharing more of my finished quilts, and I figured it's about time I shared a little more about the cover quilt for the Star Trails quilt pattern

I've shared a pink scrappy version here, and a red white & blue version here if you'd like to see them- but THIS is the one that completely stole my heart and gets to be the cover model for the pattern.

Spot On Quilt in Bird Song Fabrics

Anyone else finding it hard to believe we're almost halfway through July already?

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on a quilt using some new fabrics from Pat Sloan...and I have some to giveaway at the end of this post so stick around!

Bird Song is Pat Sloan's newest fabric line for Benartex fabrics, and right now she's hosting a fabric tour to help us get to know her new line better. For my project I chose to use some of the blue and green prints:

Lofty Quilt - One Just For Me

Not often, but every once in awhile I make a quilt just for me. And from the very beginning, I knew I wanted to keep this quilt.

Lofty quilt pattern by Andy Knowlton of A Bright Corner - a fat quarter pattern in four sizes

I started working on this quilt last fall, after finding some of the fabrics at the Garden of Quilts event.

I took awhile on the fabric selection (more on that in a minute) and then got the top pieced pretty quickly. Then it took a bit for me to get around to quilting it. When I have other quilts with deadlines then my own quilts have to wait in line for their turn on the longarm.

Star Trails Quilt Pattern the Scrappy Version

I've been sewing with scraps lately, and loving it. I'm determined to greatly reduce the number of scraps in my bins. I've been saving scraps for years and right now some of the bins are filled to bursting and just can't hold more!

This quilt is a scrappy version of the Star Trails pattern

Star Trails has two construction methods to choose from: speedy strip pieced, or scrappy. Both are really fun, and take less time than you'd think.

Hello everyone! And welcome to those new friends that may be stopping by for the first time!

Today I get to share a project I made from a new book by Pat Sloan called, Tantalizing Table Toppers

U Pick quilt made by Andy Knowlton of A Bright Corner

The pattern I used is called U-Pick and it makes a 45.5" x 45.5" table topper. However...that happens to be a great size for a baby quilt so mine will be used for that purpose!

Star Trails Quilt Pattern in Red White And Bang Fabrics

I get to share TWO new things with you today - a new pattern and some fun, new fabrics!

Star Trails quilt pattern by Andy Knowlton of A Bright Corner

Meet my newest pattern: Star Trails. This one is fun because you have a lot of options!

For fabrics you can use:
  • fat quarters
  • pre-cut 2-1/2" strips (Rolie Polie / Jelly Roll)
  • yardage (1/4 yard cuts)
  • or even scraps...yes it makes a great scrap buster quilt!

The pattern includes two sizes, and you have TWO options for constructing the pieced rows - quick strip piecing or foundation piecing. But more on that in a minute....

Lucky Duck Quilt in Hopscotch and Freckles Fabrics

Today I get to share a Lucky Duck quilt that I finished up this week.

The gray days of winter really get to me so it's always a delight to work with brighter, cheerful colors and fabrics this time of year. And another plus is to be able to whip up a quilt pretty quickly and get the satisfaction that comes from FINISHING something. You know what I mean!

Lucky Duck quilt pattern by Andy of A Bright Corner - a Layer Cake and fat quarter friendly pattern in five sizes

For this Lucky Duck quilt I used fat quarters from a new fabric line from Poppie Cotton called Hopscotch and Freckles

I selected just the reds and blues from the line. The text print, and the small florals are my favorite, but the little strawberries are a close third!

Dinner Party Quilt in Cozy Up Fabrics

I have a problem with Layer Cakes (a.k.a. precut 10" squares). My problem is that I love to buy them but often can't decide what to make with them. So they sit there.

I even have a cute bin to "display" these Layer Cakes. But really...I'd rather put them to good use and sew them up into a quilt!

So my goal for the past couple of years has been to focus on designing patterns that specifically use those pretty 10" squares that we all love.
