Radon Detectors (Lending Collection)

Radon Detectors are a part of The Playground at FVRL. They are available for loan – free with your FVRL card.

Radon Detectors at FVRL

Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) offers easy-to-use, portable Radon Detectors for loan.

Radon gas is an odourless, tasteless, naturally occurring radioactive gas. It comes from the breakdown of uranium in the ground (rock, soil, water). Radon is found in every building in Canada.

Exposure to higher concentrations has significant health effects. According to the Government of Canada, Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Through lending Radon Detectors, we hope to assist customers with discovering the health effects of radon. We encourage customers to test their personal radon exposure levels and gain confidence in making informed personal health choices.

Borrowing a Radon Detector With Your FVRL Card

Radon Detectors circulate through the FVRL system as part of the floating collection. If we don’t have one available at your local library, we can put a hold on the next available one. You can check availability at your library or search online in the FVRL catalogue.

You may check out your Radon Detector for a three-week loan period. If there are holds on the kit, you may only keep it for two weeks. Please return your Radon Detectors on time to any FVRL location. The Playground collection is available to FVRL full-access cardholders only. See Getting a Library Card for more details.
