Use up that DSP, Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop #23

I'm always on the look out for ways to put designer series papers (dsp) to good use. The right pattern, in the right layout, can create the perfect base for deceptively quick to put together card.

This layout here for instance, would work with any of those bigger, bolder patterns in your stash.  It really showcases the beautiful imagery in the papers, while a few simple embellishments and a single embossed sentiment give the maker a well-deserved sense of creative accomplishment!

I'm sharing this project today for the Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop. It's our challenge this month to inspire you to pull out your stash of retired dsp and put them to good use. Click the 'next' link below to visit  Linda's blog for more ideas to do just that!

DIY Background, Let's Get Hopping #19

Is there anything more creatively satisfying than taking a plain sheet of paper and turning it into something special?  Today, the Let's Get Hopping team are inspiring you to rock your cardmaking tools to make your own DIY backgrounds.  I've chosen to get messy with Brusho colour crystals to create this watercolour washed effect.

I started with panel of Shimmery White cardstock, brushed it lightly with water in my aqua painter and haphazardly sprinkled on yellows, reds and orange crystals.  Then I blended the colours and as it was drying, added a few more sprinkles of colour, leaving them to create the splatter detail.

Once it was dry, I left it under heavy books for a day or so to flatten out.  Then I had to decide what stamps to pair it with!  I went for the Fairy Celebration imagery in the end.  I felt like the shimmery, whimsical background worked well with this playful Fairy theme.  What stamps would you pair with a background like this?

Blessed, Let's Get Hopping #18

Back in July 2016, I shared a set of Christmas projects *here* on the blog.  That blog post has, by far, been my best performing - most viewed - post to date!

So when the Let's Get Hopping team were challenged to CASE themselves for this month's blog hop theme, I decided to draw inspiration from these popular projects to bring you this new design.
What does CASE mean?

I like to think of it as Copy And Selectively Edit.
Copying isn't particularly creative work.  Being inspired by someone else's idea to produce something new and different is creative work.
- Shia LaBeouf

I chose to CASE the cookie bag from *this* original post.  To start with, I searched through my stamp collection to find a sweet little floral that would suit being coloured with Stampin' Write Markers.  I settled on this "Beautiful Promenade" flower and went with tones of Highland Heather and Mossy Meadow.  I paired it with a romantically scripted "Southern Serenade" sentiment.
I'm featuring this design in a card buffet event later this month.  Are you local to the Bendigo area? Come and make this card with me!  Find details of my next event *here* on my facebook page.

Or, learn with me online!  Find this tutorial and more on my YouTube Channel.

Christmas, Let's Get Hopping

The Let's Get Hopping crew are getting ready for the festive season with a special Christmas blog hop today - the only catch - to share a project, any project, so long as it's not a card!

I decided to share a gift idea. I'm a big fan of repurposing jars.  Usually, I like to fill them with handmade goodies but this time I've gone with a selection of chocolate treats.

The gift tag features festive favourites from the current Stampin' Up! holiday catalogue, see the supply list below for details.

Continue the hop for a heap of Christmas project ideas! The talented Eva Pottsova from the UK is up next.

Cards of All Shapes and Sizes, Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop

Today the Let's Get Hopping crew are sharing cards of all different shapes and sizes!

There are some occasions that call for an extra special project - something a bit different than our usual A6 card design.  Milestone Birthdays definitely fall in this category!  This week my beautiful Mum celebrates her 60th birthday and so I made this double z-fold card just for her.

A big thank you to Natalie from Stamp Witch Blog.  I was grateful for her template.  I adjusted the size to make my square a bit bigger than Natalie's original design, but having her template to work off made the whole process so simple!

The colour scheme was inspired by my friend Cindy Schuster.  I found a piece of gorgeous retired Watercolor Wonder designer series patterned paper in my stash.  Its soft florals are a close match to the pretty Petal Pink, which I found to be a great tone-on-tone tie in with the Cajun in this palette.

Thank you for stopping by to check out my card today!  Click the 'next' link below to see what unusual sized card my crafty friend Teresa has to share today!
