I didn't start out interested in an RV. Imagine that! These are a few of the other airplanes I considered before and while making the decision to build an RV-7.

Yes, the Lancair legacy was my choice for a while. It's fast, attractive and proven. It's also glass, expensive to build and own, complex to build and not as well suited to the semi-backcountry flying I like.

The Midget Mustang II is a nice airplane. I wanted tricycle gear and an easy kit to build. It's a nice airplane, but the completness and thought of the aircraft kit available at the time I looked into it, wasn't competative with the RV's. I still like the Mustang, but it's not an RV-7.

   
       

This is the airplane that first got me interested in building (I think). I thought a Kitfox would be a fun little airplane to build. I loved the idea of a small airplane that could carry a good-sized load and get into backcountry strips. Eventually, I got around to considering what kind of flying I would be doing most of the time and what kind of building techniques I was most comfortable with. In the end, the Kitfox turned out to be only interesting. Someday, I may reconsider and the little Kitfox may be back in the running. For now, RV-7 is the name that gets my heart pounding...

 

   
         

The Glassair wasn't really all that available when I started thinking seriously about building. It is fast, attractive and reasonably proven. It is glass, expensive to build and the kit is new or newly back in production. If I had gone with this class of airplane in glass, it probably would have been the Lancair...
