Ford Anglia (105E and 123E)
The Ford Anglia 105E is famed for its reverse-rake rear window, this was a solution to giving rear seat passengers greater headroom, but it also gave good aerodynamics. However, Elwood Engel had given the 1958 Lincoln Continental a reverse-rake window and he was in Birmingham, UK during the design stage of the 105E. The 105E Anglia had started as Project 195X back in 1954, and was always intended to be a sophisticated solution to the small car, gaining macpherson strut suspension and a new overhead valve 997cc engine, the first of the 'Kent' series engines. Launched in 1959 as the 2-door Ford Anglia, its was supplemented by the 123E Ford Anglia Super which had the Cortina 1198cc engine. A 3-door estate car was available from 1961, and a 5/7cwt van was also available.
