Day
One:
We'll start off our series of tours by familiarising ourselves
with Lerwick, the capital town of Shetland - before visiting
Shetland Wool Brokers, our Aladdin's Cave of wool products,
patterns and knowledge.
We'll follow our visit to Shetland Wool Brokers by calling
in at the Spinners, Weavers and Dyers Museum, where the history
of Shetland's knitwear activity has been so carefully preserved.

Day
Two:
Our tour today will cover parts of the South
Mainland, with visits to Shetland Designer (traditional
handframe designs), Da Warp & Weft Visitor Centre and
Mill Shop at Hoswick, and Shetland Collection (Doreen Brown's
workshop and display area). And of course, we can't afford
to miss seeing the puffins at Sumburgh Head!
We'll take our lunch break at the Spiggie Hotel, and enjoy
the wonderful panoramic view of Spiggie Loch and Foula as
the backdrop to our meal.
In the evening we'll be able to enjoy the Islesburgh Exhibition
(at the Islesburgh Centre, in Lerwick), with spinning &
knitting demonstrations, local crafts and The Shetland Folk
Dancers accompanied by traditional Shetland music.

Day
Three:
Our day in the Westside
and North
Mainland will take us first of all to Jamieson's
Spinning Mill near Sandness, where our famous Shetland
wool is transformed from raw fleece into a fantastic range
of knitting yarns.
From Jamieson's, we'll travel eastwards and northwards to
visit Mary
T. Designs in Brae. An innovative designer, Mary felts
her knitting and produces a unique range of outer garments
with the fabric.
Today's lunch-break will be a picnic stop at Ronas
Hill, where we'll be able to enjoy breathtaking views
with our meal. We'll then travel on westwards towards Eshaness,
to visit Tangwick
Haa Museum and Hoohevd
Studio Gallery.
This evening's social activity will be a Hospitality Night,
where we'll meet a selection of knitters and knitwear designers.

Day
Four:
Today's tour will take us to the far
north of Shetland, making use of two of our Inter-Island
ferries. We set off this morning (via the Toft-Ulsta ferry)
for Bayanne
House in Sellafirth at the top end of Yell, where
Liz Gott produces wonderful 3D knitted, framed pictures usually
of the Shetland landscape.
From there, we'll take the short but pleasant ferry-trip from
Gutcher to Belmont on Unst, Shetland's (and Britain's) most
northerly island. We'll drive eastwards through Uyeasound
to Muness (close to Muness Castle) to meet Margaret Peterson
at NorNova Knitwear ... Margaret not only produces
Shetland knitwear, but is also a hand-spinner of renown, making
(amongst other things) the most beautiful cobweb shawls.
