Caucasian Oak (quercus macranthera)

Native to the Caucasus area (Georgia, Azerbijan, Armenia and Southern
Russia) and parts of North Iran. This tree is rarely found in North
America or Europe.

The Caucasian Oak is adapted to growing in high
mountainous area. At maturity it reaches a height of 25m (80ft). It is a
deciduous tree.
The leaves are a semi-glossy green, up to 15cm (6in) long and 5cm (2in) wide.
The bark is typically oak like in appearance and colour.
The flowers appear as single catkins in May. They form mature acorns in September to October which are relatively small at 2.5cm (1in). This is a rare oak tree and mainly found in tree collections around the world.
