France's ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) has recorded a clear victory in the country's European poll, as voters turned away from the far-right National Front (FN).
The UMP reversed the result of the 2004 election by taking 29% of the vote. The opposition Socialist Party (PS) were second with 17%. Last time, the Socialists had 29% and the UMP nearly 17%. The Greens came in third this year with 15%.
Christine Lagarde spoke to the BBC about why, unlike in France, the the far-right has polled well in some European nations.
