Harvey denied assaulting the police officer

Michael Junior Harvey, 26, appeared at St Albans magistrates on Tuesday charged with assaulting Pc Keith Harron in January. He denied the charge.

It was alleged Harvey grabbed the officer's shirt as he tried to arrest him in Welwyn Garden City, Herts.

Sentence was adjourned for a week for reports on the singer.

Harvey was also found guilty of using threatening words or behaviour, a charge he also denied.

CS spray

The court heard Harvey was stopped after being spotted using his mobile phone while behind the wheel of his black Volkswagen four wheel drive vehicle.

The court heard Harvey swore at the policeman and ripped off his tie in the scuffle. Officers had to use two blasts of CS spray to restrain the rapper and TV presenter.

In evidence on Tuesday, Harvey claimed Pc Harron had been rude and aggressive towards him and had raised the tension by shouting at him in the street.

The celebrity said he fronted campaigns teaching inner city children about police stop-and-search laws and would never be rude or aggressive to police.

'Embarrassed and humiliated'

Harvey said he was left "embarrassed and humiliated" when passing children recognised him as he was being arrested.

Magistrate Peter Stanley said he would not be jailing the rapper for the attack but would consider a community punishment.

Kevin Cobham, defending, told the court that he would provide the next hearing with references outlining Harvey's community work, including groups such as the Prince's Trust and south London schools to promote responsible citizenship.
