From *meyos, the thematization of *mey, the dative of Proto-Indo-European *h₁moi-; alternatively, from *mewos (influenced by *tweos and *sewos) or *memos. See Latin me (me).

Compare Proto-Slavic *mojь (my) from Proto-Balto-Slavic *majas, from PIE *moyos.
