Biography

Michael McKenna - Commerce One, Inc.

Michael McKenna has been a specialist in the field of globalization of applications and client/server environments for over nine years. In addition, he is a licensed professional engineer and has a background in global e-commerce, application design, database internals, distributed bibliographic systems, test engineering, and ethnographic research.

Michael recently took a new position as Senior Director of Globalisation at Commerce One. In this new role, he has three primary responsibilities: oversight of corporate global business strategies, streamlining and enhancing the localisation process, and technical and business product management of global e-Commerce products and services. Previous to Commerce One, he was a Globalization Strategist at Sybase, Inc. In that role he was responsible for globalisation consulting and product management of the international aspects of enterprise portal and e-commerce solutions. In the past, he has been responsible for the development of European and Asian releases of a SQL relational database management system and built up the Power Builder development team at the Sybase Asian Development Centre in Singapore. His founded the Sybase Global Products Group, which is responsible for the internationalisation architecture of all enterprise information management software that Sybase markets.

Michael has been active in standards activities, spoken at over twenty conferences and seminars on three continents, has produced curriculum and taught classes on software engineering for the University of California, and has been an invited speaker at a European Commission Technology Workshop.

He is a co-founder of the Globalisation Management Strategies Group and is on the Programme Committee of the Globalisation Management Strategies Conference.
