well, it's now been 1 and a half years since POV obtained the rights to moray,
and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere in the near future. So seeing as the
POV team aren't doing anything with it, why not just release the source code
under GPL and let the public deal with it? There's a few features I would like
to add to moray (mainly built-in code input/animation support), but I have no
way knowing how big a task that would be without being able to access the
source. If the source was within my skill range, i would be happy to join some
sort of development team, but I (and a few others by the looks of it) don't
want to jump in at the deep end straight away.

Problem is that the source isn't nearly GPL. There are quite a few
libraries and links belonging to a specific dominating company. So there
are some people trying to 'clean' the code but this task is not an easy one.

Ah, didn't realize it contained other companies code... That could end up being
a big complication. Are you personally working on it? It's just that after
browsing for a while, I haven't found any mention of anyone actually doing
anything, just talking about it...
If any helps needed, I could try, though I have no idea weather it'd within my
skill range.

Yes, but we only physically received the code at the start of 2008:
Lutz had to clean it up to remove some third-party code (commercial
components).
There is an active effort to get those portions re-written. There's
two people working on it part-time. No estimation of when we'll have
something that works.

Hi all, just a quick note to let you know that we've been working on the Moray
source code for a couple of weeks and have made good progress in getting a
stable 3.6 version running.
So, Moray lives! It's just in intensive care right now; hopefully in a
wheelchair and out of the hospital soon :)

That's very good news :-)
Let us know when we can push the wheelchair and lead Moray to a little
promenade in the garden ;-)

Likewise, I view this as good news.
If you should have a "beta wheelchair" version, let us try it out... :-)
Thanks for your efforts... much appreciated.

The last I heard was after Pov 4.7 is released.
