Could the site show the exact date and time of the submission deadline? 
  At the moment (1715 EST on 16 Dec) the site shows only that there is 
one day left.  That's not terribly useful.

AFAIK this was "high noon" Greenwich/UT time, but the text 
should change to something along the "XYZ hours left" line 
once it's less than a day.

Sorry, that's not really helpful, i guess...
