Submissions to direct in the 2025-2026 season are now closed
REQUIREMENTS
– Interested parties are invited to submit a slate of up to three scripts to direct at OCTA.
– Please send your submissions and theatrical resume to submissions@olathetheatre.org.
– A digital or physical copy of the script is required for each submission. Digital copies should be sent via email to submissions@olathetheatre.org. If lending a physical copy, please reach out to a board member at submissions@olathetheatre.org to coordinate pick up.
– DEADLINE: November 30th, 2025. All required documents must be submitted at this time and late submissions/materials will not be accepted.
– You will receive an email confirming receipt, and another within three (3) days if there are issues or questions. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation at that time, please reach out to us! E-mails can get stuck in spam folders.
– You will receive an invitation for an interview by 1/31/26 if your submission(s) have been chosen. Interviews will take place in February 2026.
– New directors at OCTA will be expected to have secured a stage manager prior to their interview, and in the case of musicals must also have a musical director.
– We aim to have our season selected and announced by May 1, 2026
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
– We respect your passion and want to hear about your dream show. OCTA strives to have a combination of musicals, plays, dramas, and comedies; a variety of genres in your submissions may improve your chances for selection.
– While the interview process will allow you the time to detail how you intend to take your production from page to stage, a basic outline of your vision for the show at time of submission is always helpful. Share your passion with us… why THIS show?
– Please avoid submitting a production that has been staged by OCTA in the last fifteen (15) years.
– Please try to avoid submitting a show that has been staged by other local theatre companies within the last five (5) years.
– If your submission is selected, you and your production team will have access to the space for four (4) consecutive weeks of rehearsal and one (1) week of tech prior to opening. If you require rehearsals before this time you will need to make arrangements for an alternative location.
– When scheduling our season, the first few rehearsals of one show may need to take place somewhere other than OCTA if it overlaps with a current show. This will be communicated during selection.
STAGE DIMENSIONS
OCTA’s stage has limitations in size, though creative and effective solutions have been used for larger shows/casts. Click the below link for the stage dimensions.
NEW & VETERAN DIRECTORS
– OCTA encourages directors with all levels of experience to apply. Directors with no experience may be asked to assistant direct at OCTA before being considered. Directors with more experience may likewise be asked to take on an assistant director for their show in the upcoming season.
– New directors at OCTA are expected to have secured a stage manager prior to their interview. If submitting a musical, new directors must secure a stage manager and music director prior to their interview. OCTA is happy to offer assistance in finding both positions if needed.
OCTA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OCTA has several board members with different roles who strive for safe and high quality experiences for directors, production teams, and cast. You will have a designated OCTA Board Production Manager as a liaison, but we will not interfere with your artistic decisions.
