Although only time will tell, but we are confident that the
talents of the IPDPS community have been sufficiently tapped to ensure that Y2K will dawn
smoothly and that IPDPS will convene on May 1, 2000 in Cancun,
Mexico. If you attended in
1994, you will be familiar with Westin Regina Hotel and the warm & festive hospitality
we enjoyed.
As we experienced in 1994, the setting & prices are family friendly. Located on one
end of the Cancun peninsula, the Westin Regina provides relaxed resort amenities with
several pools and a private swimming beach. An excellent snorkeling area is only a short
walk up the beach and buses run frequently along the beach strip of hotels, clubs, and
name restaurants to Cancun proper. There, the markets & vendors offer both local
Mexican goods and bargain imports, turning shopping trips into excursions and evening
entertainment.
Finally, there is Chichen-Itza, the most famous of the old Maya cities located deep in
the tropical rain forest of Yucatan. If you missed the "Gottlieb Tour" in 1994,
check information on the Web regarding daily tours that depart from the hotel. You may
want to plan your stay to allow a full day for the trip to Chichen-Itza or other Caribbean
Mexico points of interest.
The calendar tells us that IPDPS 2000 coincides with
Cinco de Mayo
- the 5th of May -
which is a Mexican and American holiday associated with freedom and liberty. It will be
fiesta time in Cancun, and you are invited to join the celebration!
