The 1974 VW Thing type 181 used in "Return Of Swamp Thing". The car was fitted with a roll cage & fake rocket launchers in Savannah,GA. The tag was AC-3 . It is seen in two different scenes in the movie.The first was in a swamp,were a pretty woman-guard shoots some hunters.The second is when Swamp Thing is fired at with rockets.He throws a hand gernade,and blows the car and actor up.The car rolls over and burns infront of Dr. Arcanes lab.I was on set the night they shot this.(Oatland Island Education Center.) Dr.Arcanes lab was my TV school class room. I bought the jeep from LightYear productions. I restored it within a year,using Arcane decals.I drove Swamp Thing, (Dick Durock) to the world Premiere of the film. He said, "I thought I got rid of this Thing!" He was a very classy and kind man.I sold the car to a local man a few years later. |
