Imcdb is not a smoke-free space? |

Good question, Gomsel Here are some -mainly US-American- members annoyed, when topless girls are to see, and otherwise some Europeans are unhappy about violent scenes, which are shown in US- or Asian movies. It's usually said, that IMCDB is a site, created by the Belgian Antoine and running on European servers, so the European laws are valid for us, so topless girls are o.k., but no pics of violence. So also alcoholic drinks are not forbidden. In the USA all of them have to be covered with brown paper: /vehicle_166529-Audi-Coupe-Typ-85-1983.html And they too! /vehicle_277549-Ford-Granada-Turnier-1982.html The other point, which is not cleared until now, is: Are IMCDB-members allowed to post comments or contributing pics, when they are (more or less) drunk. Is there any IMCDB-alcohol-limit? If yes, which one would be vaild? In Europe, not even in the EU, the rules are not the indentical. Same with smoking. The regulations are getting stronger everywhere. If I'm not wrong, Romania is the only European country, which has no specific anti-smoke-laws at all. Fortunately the actual computer-technology has no smell-transmission. In that case I would feel annoyed to be in touch with contributions from smoking members. @cl82: you are outta everywhere: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rauchverbot |

In Spain until 31-12-2010, only in bars-restaurants under 100 m/2 and over that surface area if they had closely space for smokers. From 1-1-2011, none bars, none restaurants,... even in exterior areas if you are next to a hospital, shools, public buildings, kindergartens,.... I'll change nicotine poisoning to alcoholism -- Last edit: 2014-01-29 23:33:28 (antp) |

@ingo: You're right of course. These days are times of discrimination. |
◊ 2011-01-11 18:19 |
Actually it was created by a French guy, I just continued the project he started And the site runs on a server hosted in France. The ads are provided by a US company (Google), and the money earned by the ads is provided through the Irish subsidiary of that company. So something which do not comply to US laws (or more specifically to Google Adsense terms) would probably not be a legal problem but a money problem... -- Last edit: 2011-01-11 18:24:24 |

@cl82: a question of the standpoint. For us non-smokers it's fine. I remember, that in the 90ies (when I'd been quite often to disco's and club's) a non-smoker-evening was something really rare. After a "normal" disco-night, you were stinking like an old ash-tray. Sometimes it was so bad, that I got asthma-cough after it. In the mid-90ies there were more foam-parties, than non-smoker-evenings in the disco's... So no reason for smokers to feel discriminated And for our beloved cars the new times are better, too How disgusting is long-time-smoker's car? Plus fire-dots of cigarette-ashes in the upholstery? -- Last edit: 2011-01-11 18:23:46 |

Of course it depends on the point of view. I've been to parties or discos as well where even I as smoker got sick due to the massive smoke. And I've no problem with going outside or to a apecial smoker-section when I'm at a restaurant or a bar today. I honestly don't want to harm anyone with my addiction. But some people have gone too far and have removed even the ashtrays outside of public buildings and then they complain about cigarettes lying on the ground. As far as cars concerned I share your opinion. I only smoke in my current car because it's now 18 years old and I'm probably the last owner. Besides, the upholstery was already ruined when I got it due to the previous owner always wearing dusty working clothes and sharp tools in his pocket while driving it. |

◊ 2011-01-12 21:22 |
Why nightmare? The upholstery got a free soap-cleaning on the way back... |

The title card shows a '51 Ford Deluxe Tudor Sedan (chrome windsplit on fender). Can you add the two cars whose nicotine-deficient drivers start ramming each other in the street? A '58 Pontiac Chieftain and a '62 Olds 88, IIRC. |

Besides Bob and Ray, there's a cameo by Jack Grimes - better known as one of the voiceover performers (Sparky, et al) on the original Speed Racer series (he's the TV technician in the church scene). |

Pretty much the same like the EU; separate rooms for non-smokers in bars already for some years etc. Good challenge though I'm dreaming of the world of none smokers -- Last edit: 2014-01-29 23:33:13 (antp) |

I'm dreaming about world of common sense. Do really one extreme must replace another? |
◊ 2011-01-16 17:39 |
One thing for sure, smoke isn't part of the common sense. |
◊ 2011-01-16 21:44 |
Extreme solutions are good sometimes, but not to everything and it is also a matter of some style IMO. I've never smoked. I'm also not against some "smoking bans", but all this mass media, pop cultural hysteria, ostracism and "witch-hunt" for smokers is simply ridiculous. What is the point for divide people on every step this way? -- Last edit: 2011-01-16 21:49:23 |

Michał, thanks for your moderation ... and thx too to vilero and cl82 for saving me from feeling isolated. Many people of my generation (I’m 70) had parents who smoked, and themselves (like me) started before the lung cancer scare broke. I’m not particularly proud of smoking, but while it’s harmed my physical health it possibly saved my sanity when I was working as a driver, spending hours at a time doing something which after over 100,000km yearly had become instinctive. |

The Actors Compendium website could use some extra details and images from this movie: http://www.aveleyman.com/FilmCredit.aspx?FilmID=3646 I just ordered a copy of the movie from Amazon, but they really should add my images from "Confessions of an Action Star," though. |
