![]() Utter piece of crap made by Howard Bretherton, one of the Z-movie tycoons. This is Charlie Chan, the "World famous Chinese detective": ![]() (please take note of the ears, probably the only untouched item here) … Sidney Toler, who moves like a zombie. (A-hem… I read that he was dying of cancer when he did this part.) Difficult to imagine that the reception of this kind of thing was warm. Difficult to understand what made Rita Quigley accept the character she had to play here. But, well, since the main comic asset of the movie was ![]() Mantan Moreland's perfomance, everything is possible, I have to admit. C'est la vie. À propos of this, let's note in a bitter tone that this has a brilliant second digitalised life, which helps me to provide fine captures, while a nicely crafted and written comedy of the likes À vos ordres, Madame is only accesseable through what I gave to you. And for the latter, on IMDb, 0 (zero) review and a 5.0/10 mark, while this gets 7.1/10 and 19 reviews. I renounce to understand, or even to read the reviews, I'm affraid to fall only on people congratulating themselves about the oh so camp funny stuff they had the pleasure to watch. So it goes... ![]() NB: it's not a we-poor-French-of-the-ancient-and-soon-lost-culture vs. stoopid-Americans stuff. Seeing in those prestine conditions this piece of shit makes me also think sour about those excellent US B-movies only watchable by horrible and mutilated copies, like The 3rd Voice. -- Last edit: 2015-06-29 04:45:54 |

Filming locations: — Monogram Studios - 1725 Fleming Street, Los Angeles, California, USA — Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, California, USA … Well, I finally read those reviews on IMDb and most of them were expressing the same grieves as mine. But they added an extra precision, calling the film "the worst Charlie Chan movie". Unfortunately for me, it was my first. Other note: it appears we have already 25 Charlie Chan movies here, /movies.php?title=Charlie+Chan which means that we have only 33 more to add ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Chan#Filmography ) for the complete cannon. -- Last edit: 2015-06-29 04:57:28 |
