LAPD patrol officer in taco's thumb has a shoulder patch. In real life they don't. Most agencies have them. Why doesn't LAPD have them? -- Last edit: 2014-02-11 07:03:39 |

That's not an LAPD officer in the thumbnail. Or at least it isn't an LAPD prop uniform. The LAPD actually does have a shoulder patch, but it is only worn by traffic division officers: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13873511@N06/3371078251/ Variants of that basic patch are worn on just about every non class A uniform top (such as polo shirts and raid jackets) worn by the specialized units of the LAPD, to include the Metro Division (SWAT, K9, anti-riot teams, etc) and the bike patrol. As for why the patch is not worn on the regular LAPD uniform? Tradition. The LAPD set the standard for the "police look." Everybody knows who they are and they don't need any patches to prove it. In fact, not having patches sets them apart. Overall, their basic uniform has changed very little since the 1940's. Heck, even their car markings have never really changed, and those are very basic as well. It's a department that respects it's history and traditions. |

Actually the scene in the thumbnail takes place in Santa Monica. Ideally, that cop should've been wearing one of these Santa Monica PD uniforms instead. |

His patch says "Los Angeles" and it has the LA city seal on it. I think he's supposed to be some sort of parking enforcement officer, at least I think I can see that on his patch. And he isn't carrying a gun, so he's definitely not supposed to be a cop. But why would a parking enforcement officer be carrying a baton? Anyhow, it's probably just a fictional uniform design that some prop department cobbled up. |
