Re: [nafex] Southmeadow status

I don't know who runs Southmeadow now, but years ago, when Mr. Grootendorst
ran it, I also had some odd occurrances. Two different times I ordered from
them, sent a check, and got the order. But six months later I got letters
or even phone calls from Mr. Grootendorst demanding that I pay for my order.
I had the canceled checks to prove I had paid, so that was that. But I
found that other people had the same experience. I also quit buying there
because I got stock of apple varieties that was severely infected with virus
- worst case yellows and mottling I've ever seen. A "Lord's Seedling" apple
was so bad it hardly even grew. That was a key experience in setting me on
the path to finding other ways to get old varieties. Made me feel twice as
bad when I met Bob Nitzchke because he was such a nice fellow, and his
material was being sold by such a curmudgeon.
