Straight sand.
To elaborate on the wicking....use unglazed clay pots and set in
porous surface....like more potting soil.
Michael Dirr (Great writer and plant person!) recommends straight
perelite (sp?). Does not break down. Can be sterilized. Good air.
Requires mist.
