Turning a pile with a hoe (tined or narrow bladed eyehoe) is much easier than
with a fork, which can be used for the final dress-up. (and you can sing, as
you march out to the pile, "eye hoe, eye hoe! etc.) A bit of compost
activator #1 or Vit. "P" (urine) will get any high-cellulose pile cooking. A
bit of mineral soil or clay slurry will aid in humus formation in the heap.
And when its all done, make a tea with some, spray it on your fruit trees,
and you may well see scab disappear.... my friend Ross Olson, working for
Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web in Corvallis, OR, did just that in one season.
