One of the seedling hickories Lucky sent me had a knot at the base,
apparently came out of the seed aimed one way, and someone turned it over so
it twisted around the other way.  I was considering this an inferior
speciman untill I read the article about tying a knot in trees to dwarf
them.  Your N shaped tree would also probably experience some dwarfing.
