Moored outboard of Maryland and ahead of West Virginia, Oklahoma was subject to a devastating port-side torpedo attack, sustaining at least nine torpedo impacts within the first 15 minutes of the attack. Combined with near misses by bombs, the damage was so extensive that she capsized at her berth. Although her salvage was questionable, it was decided to rid the harbor of her hulk to make her berth at F-5 available for other ships. In what was the most technically difficult task faced by the salvage division at Pearl Harbor, she was successfully righted in June, 1943. She was refloated in November of that year, and was moored in Middle Loch until 1947. Sold for scrap for $146,000.00, she was towed by two tugs for the West Coast

but was lost enroute 540 miles northeast of Pearl Harbor on May 17, 1947.
