By Safety Officer Brad Saunders
October 17, 2023

On October 16th at approximately 8:27 PM, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted for mutual aid to Prince George’s County in the 13000 Block of Martin Road for the working house fire. Engine Tanker 2 made the response. While responding, first arriving units arrived on the scene to confirm a working fire. Upon arrival Engine Tanker 2 supplied water to the fire ground. During operations PG Units discovered two deceased individuals inside the residence. Once the fire was extinguished, PG scaled the assignment back and Engine Tanker 2 was released from the scene.

Hughesville Volunteers would like to extend our condolences to the victims, family and friends of the fire.

We would also like to make sure you check your smoke detectors to ensure they are working, as well as replace the battery’s every 6 months. It is unknown at this time if smoke alarms were present and functioning during this incident, or if they may have changed the outcome. The PGFD Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
