Chile Special Weapons

A 1993 Russian Foreign Intelligence Service report listed Chile as having a possible chemical weapons program. Heretofore this claim has proven unfounded. Chile ratified the CWC in 1996.

Chile has been collaborating since 1987 with the United Kingdom firm Royal Ordnance to develop the Rayo (Lightning) multiple launch artillery rocket. The rocket is 3.2 meters long with a diameter of 160 millimeters and has a nominal range of 35 km. It is initially expected to be able to deliver high explosive and bomblet warhead. (1)
