Ground Multi-band Terminal [GMT]

The Ground Multi-band Terminal [GMT] is a tactical satellite communications ground terminal that will support operations in X, C, Ku, and military Ka-band.

On June 5, 2001 Harris Corp., Palm Bay, Fla., was awarded a $300,000,000 (maximum) firm-fixed-price and variable-quantity contract to provide for development and production of up to 200 ground multi-band terminals. These modular, lightweight and high-capacity military satellite communication ground terminals will utilize the Defense Satellite Communications System, Wideband Gapfiller System, and commercial satellite systems such as international telecommunications satellites. The terminals will provide dual hub communications capabilities to support increasing bandwidth requirements for deployed Air Force units. The Air Force can award delivery orders for terminals totaling up to the maximum amount indicated above, though actual requirements may necessitate less than that amount. At this time, $9,919,710 of the funds have been obligated. The development effort will extend through May 2003, followed by an ordering period which is expected to be completed by September 2007. There were eight firms solicited, and two proposals were received. Solicitation began January 2001; negotiations were completed May 2001.
