Satellite Receiver (SMQ-11)

The AN-SMQ-11 is a stand-alone environmental satellite ground receiver. The system is made up of three primary components: a motorized antenna, a signal processing and scheduling assembly, and an image processing software application called TeraScan. The SMQ-11 is capable of receiving raw imagery data in the visible, IR, and water vapor wavelengths from both the military DMSP and the NOAA TIROS polar orbiting satellites. Additionally, satellite pictures and a limited selection of weather charts can be received from the GOES satellites on the WEFAX channel. The TeraScan software application allows the user to perform numerous different functions, to include defining sectors of interest, resolution sub-sampling, imagery enhancements and colorization, and displaying eographical/coastal/political boundaries. Resultant adjacent polar orbiter images can be "stitched" together by the TeraScan software if they meet certain to create large mosaics. The system is also capable of looping satellite images.
