310th Space Group [310th SG]

The 310th Space Group is located at Schriever AFB, Colorado and was activated on September 1, 1997 at Falcon Air Force Base, Colorado. The group reports directly to 10th Air Force. The mission of the 310 SG is to provide command and control for Department of Defense and Department of Commerce satellites and to provide security for terrestrial based 14th Air Force assets.

The 310th Space Group, Schriever AFB, CO, provides reserve unit integration into an array of Air Force Space Command mission areas.

The 310th SG is the first space group in the Air Force Reserve and was activated on September 4, 1997.

The group is comprised of the 6th Space Operations Squadron, 7th Space Operations Squadron, 8th Space Warning Squadron, 9th Space Operations Squadron and the 310th Security Forces Squadron. A new unit, the 14th Test Squadron, was activated in October 2000.

These new units are designed to further align the Reserve with the Air Force's vision of a space and air force for the early part of the next century.

The 310th originally activated at Falcon (later Schriever) Air Force Base, CO. The unit reports to the Reserve's 10th Air Force at NAS Fort Worth JRB, TX. Schriever AFB, located about 12 miles east of Colorado Springs, supports Air Force Space Command's 50th Space Wing, the Space Warfare Center, and the Joint National Test Facility.

The 310th, upon activation, was originally tasked with managing the 7th SOPS established in 1993 at Falcon AFB; the 8th SOPS; and the 310th Security Forces Squadron, and with reviewing future Air Force and Reserve partnerships to identify potential areas where the Reserve could contribute to the active force's mission.

The 8th SOPS was inactivated and replaced by the 6th SOPS at Schriever in September 1998. In October 1999, the Reserve launched the 8th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air National Guard Base (redesignated AFB), CO, and the 9th SOPS at Vandenberg AFB, CA.

In its 2005 BRAC Recommendations, DoD recommended to close Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station (ARS), NY. It would realign the 914th Airlift Wing's Expeditionary Combat Support (ECS) to the 310th Space Group (AFR) at Schriever AFB.
