Mongolia - Mobilization Reserves

Mobilization reserves consist of reservists who are intended to expand the armed forces by mobilization in order to replace losses incurred in wartime. By the end of the Cold War, the armed forces maintained a reserve force in excess of 200,000 people. Enlisted personnel automatically were transferred to the reserves when they were discharged from active duty, and they remained in the reserves until the age of forty-five.

As of 1997 the mobilization reserves of the armed forces were 137,000. Between 1985 and 2006, the number of active duty forces was reduced by 75 percent. The MAF had approximately 10,000 soldiers (7,500-11,000- depending on source) with 120,000 inactive reservists.
