Summary

Ostrich nest, Serengeti, Tanzania. The male chooses a nest site, makes a scrape, and invites several different females to lay in it. Females can apparently recognize their own eggs by minute surface details, and may roll those of competitors to the periphery. The male and the locally dominant female take turns to incubate the eggs and jointly protect the chicks.
