9 tips to go from attendee to speaker at a tech conference | The GitHub Blog

Here’s what you need to know to write a compelling session proposal and get on stage.

4. Have a friend outside of your industry review your content before you submit it. They might not understand the technical language but a fresh perspective is always a good idea.

3. Convey that your topic is best served as a conference session. If it can only work as a blog post, then the content committee likely won’t accept it.

2. Be specific with your key takeaways. What exactly will someone leave your session knowing that they didn’t know before? These should be complete sentences and begin with words such as, “Gain insight into… learn… understand… discover…”

1. Think about your session title like you would the subject line of an email—it needs to grab the attendee quickly and persuade them to read more.

Here's a behind the scenes writeup on how my team and I iterated on our complex color system using experimentation and automation, to bring greater #accessibility to @GitHub's Primer design system: github.blog/2023-05-11-unl

An example of new colors on GitHub with Primer. There are demonstrations of color contrast improvements in a few sections: default text with accessible hyperlinks, secondary text with additional content and an underline hyperlink, and a hyperlink with icon. There is also a subtle green change in the “comment” button with the text that says “solving hundreds of accessibility issues.
