OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #348

Another week, another new music weekly.

New Andres Miguel Cervantes is the album of the week. One of my most anticipated releases of this fall / early winter. Also superb to get a new one from one of the all time power pop greats Dom Mariani. Other big album releases came from Nick Shoulders, Caged Animals, adults, Radioactivity, Snocaps, Guided By Voices, Damien Jurado, Alexa Rose, Zach Thompson (EP), Sophie Jamieson (EP), Christian Kjellvander, Crow vs Lion (EP), Saintseneca, Wes Parker (EP), Canadian Sweetmen (EP) and Chat Pile & Hayden Pedigo.

A lot awesome Finnish stuff too. New albums from Poni, Rock Siltanen Group, Lone Deer Laredo and Saarisalo plus EPs from Una Harnett and Bubblegum Theory. Some mighty good singles too from Joni Ekman, Teini-Pää, Vellamo, (Sulut), Nikita Titov, Morimus and SILVA EMILIA. Teini-Pää is not available on Spotify, which is another good reason to switch to a less evil streaming service.

International single of the week can be the Reese Florence song For August. It actually came out in April, but I only just heard it and fell for it. Other early faves came from Kevin Carducci, The Weather Station, Cameron Knowler, Colter Wall, Josaleigh Pollett… again just to name a few.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #347

Another pretty overwhelming release week. A lot of albums coming out before the holiday and aoty season kicks in. There’s also some Christmas songs already. A big fave Melissa Carper have a Christmas album coming out this year. I think that will be special, but I still won’t cover Christmas stuff in October. I’ll do a separate thing in December or so.

Leanne Betasamosake Simpson and Julianna Riolino can split the imaginary album of the week award. Very fond of Lefty Parker and Adeline Hotel too. And then’t there’s new album/EP greatness from Jerry Leger, Sharon Silva, Beche (EP), Joshua Hedley, Jonny Fritz, Vanity Mirror, The Goods, Joel Cusumano, Teenage Tom Petties, Blase, The Lemonheads, Jess Jocoy, Under Violet, Stroik, Rubber Band Gun, Stephen Simmons, Brandi Carlile, Parts Work (EP), Alex E.T. (this is from September, but somehow missed it even though it’s on Curation Records), Bahamas, Chris Rawlins, Chris Lyons, Jacob Faurholt, Strawberry Whiplash, The Pricky Pair (EP), Skinny Dyck (EP) and Katy & The Null Set. Update: I found the Big Dog album couple hours after posting this. Liked it a lot on quick listen and decided to add it now instead of waiting for a week.

New Neiti Olga album is my top pick of the Finnish part of this, but there’s a lot other fabulous things too. We have albums from Ahti Kulo and Lodger and an EP from Takay-Sin plus singles from Emmy June, Mikael H, Pambikallio, Felix Alexander Lybeck, Jani Matti Juhani, Nina Kaitaranta, RULES and Rami Helin Presents.

As usual a lot international singles. Had to even leave some out just, because the length of this again got out of hand. New Avry Truex can be the single of the week. I really like everything he has recently released. Other early faves came from Andres Miguel Cervantes, Mia Wilson, Evan Cheadle, Courtney Marie Andrews, Jobi Riccio, Alexa Rose.. again just to name a few. Who knows what end up being my favorites once I’ve had more time to listen.

Another week, another new music weekly. A few busy ones ahead.

Josienne Clarke, Alice George Perez and Mariel Buckley can split the album of the week honor in three equal parts. All so great. Other big album releases came from Carla Geneve, Grass, Ward Hayden & The Outliers (Bruce covers), Leon Majcen, Darrin Hacquard, Joshua Ray Walker, Skullcrusher, Terra Lightfoot, Signe Marie Rustad, Jessica Breanne, Rosy Nolan, Joshua Quimby (Hank covers EP), Robin Taylor Zander, Sam Grassie (EP), Suzie True, Bird Streets and Ryan Power.

Big Finnish release week too led by new albums from Puhelinseksi and Vasas flora och fauna. There’s some awesome new singles too. I love many of these. The shoegaz-y brilliance of Sisar is from last week’s patch, but I only got the memo on Monday. New songs from Viitasen Piia, Pelkkä Poutanen and Auno & Sekosysteemi are all beautiful and powerful heavy hitters. Other single gems are from Antti Autio, Silja Palomäki, Havis, Timo Kämäräinen and half Finnish duo of Jonah Parzen-Johnson and Lau Nau.

A huge amount of the international singles too. Haley Heynderickx & Max Garcia Conover are back with new ones. More surprisingly Sugar is back with a new one. Some other early faves came from Fables, Dana Sipos, Reb Fountain, Charlotte Le Lievre, Aure, Sharp Pins… again just to name a few.

At least one more busy month ahead in the 2025 release calendar.

Album of the week is the new one from Greg Jamie. Other great new albums came from Charlie Kaplan, Katie Mae & The Lubrication (EP), Abigail Austin, The Telephone Numbers, Massage, Shadowgraphs, Giant Day, Walkhome, Rhett Miller, Al Nicol (last week but missed it then), The Silvertone, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Madison Cunningham, Madi Diaz, Flock of Dimes, Cataldo, Great Lake Swimmers, Hannah Frances and Josh Fortenbery.

Some big Finnish album releases too from Modem, Janne Laurila Double Denim and Tomi Nordlund & Syvä Joki. Plus an EP from Hamina. On the single side of things we have a couple of awesome debuts from Julia Rautamaa and Finding Jens Hortling.

International single of the week is the new one from Lefty Parker that also features big personal favorite Twain. I’ve really loved all these Lefty Parker singles and I’m eager to hear more. Other early faves came from Adeline Hotel, Devin Shafter (there’s two wonderful singles that came earlier in the fall. I somehow missed them, but featured one now.
