O GODDESS CLIMATE

by Shay Martin

A plea to power, which contains a simple demand, in the vein of The Chordettes' "Mister Sandman." Where that song concerns a nighttime request for the best of dream, this work is about a lifetime demand for the daily.

O Goddess Climate, don’t bring us Change;

Make all things Earthly each day the same.

Provide some sun, plus ideal cloud cover,

And perhaps a hug as tight as Mother’s.

Climate, we want all things hospitable,

As safe and sterile as clean hospital.

Why won’t you this arrange?

Goddess Climate, don’t bring us Change.

O Goddess Climate, don’t bring us Change;

Make all things Earthly each day the same.

Keep ‘way the rain, lest it ruin our day,

And ensure the lakes stay filled all the way.

Climate, just don’t upset weekend plans,

And you, from us, won’t have more demands.

What more must we say?

Goddess Climate, don’t bring us Change.
