EWG is proud to support the next generation of students that are championing and advocating for our environmental health.

Launched in 2023, EWG+HS is building a community of student leaders who want to create a healthier and safer world for everyone. Students in the program can work alone or in small groups, or form an EWG+HS club to pursue tailor-made projects and activities. They’ll learn about core environmental health issues, explore EWG’s extensive resources, and advocate for environmental health in their schools and communities.

EWG+HS leaders are testing water and food safety in their schools, helping make their homes safe using safer, healthier personal care products, and advocating for environmental health protections at state and national levels.

Emily

Emily is a senior at The Brearley School in Manhattan and ever since learning about the presence of microplastics and chemicals in everyday products such as sunscreen or boxed mac-and-cheese, she has been fascinated by environmental health. She conducted an epidemiological research project on the association between the use of personal care products and levels of chemical exposure in children, and she is now exploring the impact of chemical exposures on maternal body composition.

Scarlett & Fia

Scarlett and Fia are seniors at Sacred Heart in San Francisco. In addition to being active members of the Bay Area EWG+HS chapter, they both volunteered in early 2025 at EWG’s relief event in LA that coordinated product donations with EWG-partner brands benefitting those affected by the devastating wildfires. Scarlett and Fia, along with students across four schools in the Bay Area, are tackling all issues related to environmental health.

Angela

Angela is a self-described skincare enthusiast, and when she began to research the science behind cosmetics, she was concerned about the lack of FDA regulation on chemicals used in beauty products. To educate her community, she interviewed cosmetic chemists and then designed her own information pamphlets for teens to learn about potentially harmful ingredients. She combined her educational pamphlets with clean beauty products and handed them out to over 600 Bay Area teens, helping them make more informed choices getting ready for prom!
