Dragon Rampant Campaign - The Valley of Jeff - Game Two

With the Orcs triumphant in the first game they pushed on into the hills of Uppar.Ae green horde advancing on his hold, Barin Oakenfinger summonsed his throng to defend the passage.

Here's a video version of events:

The rules of the campaign allow for minor changes to army lists do both of us made tweaks

I had added some Trolls to my force

Crossbow armed Dwarfs had joined the defending army.

The scenario called for a steep valley with impassable cliffs on both sides.
We used lichen to delineate the edges of the sliffs.

The Orc boys were soon pushing up.

And the Troll shambled amiably alongside.

The bears made more movement in this game than the previous one.

Soon we had the classic match up of Orcs in chariots pulled by pigs facing Goat Riding Dwarf cavalry.

The goats did better overall.

The bears were racing ahead.

And the Trolls shambled off to meet them.

Up on the cliff-tops (lichen, remember) the Orc Arrer boys took aim.

The bears and Trolls came together in a mighty clash.

As the Orc boys cheered them on.

More fighting saw the Orc Chariots battered and the Goat riders reduced to a single model.

The bears were also battered but had driven the Trolls back too.

The Arrer Boys descended from the heights onto the valley floor.

As the Dwarfs formed a wall of spears.

The chariots went after another unit of Dwarfs.

Forcing them back too.

Gruzzkupp, seeing Barin weakened launched an attack.

With the Dwarf leader reeling the Chariots moved to finish the job and rode him down.

Before rampaging on into more Dwarf warriors.

Gruzzkupp meanwhile set about the other Dwarfs.

All the while the Rangers looked on.

The Arrer Boys were easily outshot by the Rangers, so moved back out or...ummm....range.

With the valley floor clear the Orcs could claim the win.

Great game that swung back and forth.
At one point it looked an easy win for the Orcs, but the Dwarfs swung things back in their favour.

Game three over this weekend all being well, so another report soon, hopefully.

Chain of Command 2: Game Four

General Ballroom and I continue our play through of all the scenarios in the book.

In this one I had the Krauts on the run. General B. thought we were due to play a different scenario, so put up a lovely quite densely terrained table - when the scenario actually specifies not too much terrain. But it looked too nice to change, so we went with it.

My objective was somewhere in the village.

View from the German positions.

I pushed up on the left flank as I could see a German JoP not too far away.

Soon my troops were racing forwards.

In the centre, concerned about fire from the buildings I placed troops on overwatch in the woods.

I'd bought a Sherman along to winkle defenders out of buildings.

Inevitable heavily armed Germans appeared.

But my men continued to push up.

More of my troops broke cover.

As the Germans prepared to fire.

The Sherman trundled forward.

Uh-oh. a Stug.

The Sherman drew a bead on the house where my objective (and a lot of Mg42s) lay.

My tropps at the hedgerow had captured a German JoP but were now taking fire.

Suddenly a figure appeared at the edge of the treeline and with a whoosh and a boom, the Sherman was aflame!

Disaster for the Americans, Iron Cross for Willie!

The unsupported infantry were taking heavy fire.

And another squad raced to support.

However with plenty of CoC acquired Oberstleutnant Ballzimmer was able to bring the game to an end with a comprehensive German victory.

A tough game for the Americans and when the Sherman went up the game was pretty much finished.

Great fun though and Chain of Command gives a grand game.

Few more random pics.

Should be playing the next scenario this very afternoon (so expect pictures some time in February...)
