Grew up with the TV show…and have always enjoyed the music. Always taken a little tongue in cheek, but pleasant none the less. RIP Davey
For a band artificially created by the recording/TV industry, they ran a slew of great sounding hits. ‘Last Train to Clarksville’ was the first 45 I purchased, and the flip side was ‘A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You’. Both got equal airplay on my Garrard turntable.

I’m on record elsewhere in these pages as calling Davy a non-musician and non-singer, but for all that he was an integral part of the Monkees. Without the teenybop girls’ attention, particularly directed towards the “cute one”, they might have sunk quickly and we would have been denied some genuinely great music. I’m told he remarried only about a year ago to a lady half his age – I won’t make the obvious joke, but I guess he died happy! RIP.
