The New Mobility team is spread across the U.S., from Oregon and Washington to North Carolina and Delaware. Our interests are as diverse as our geography, and on any given day you might find us auditioning for acting roles, speeding down mountain bike trails or perfecting a slow-cooked chili verde enchilada recipe. Our small staff brings our passions with us to the virtual meeting room as we strive to make New Mobility’s media the most informative, authentic and fun representation of wheelchair life out there. When we are able to get together at events like Roll on Capitol Hill or Wine on Wheels, it turns out we actually like each other in real life — not too shabby. Contact us here.

I’ve had the good fortune to be a part of the New Mobility team for the last decade, including the last three as the editor. In that role I’ve focused on making sure NM has its fingers on the pulse of the mobility disability community. I take pride in ensuring that we are sharing stories and resources that help our readers live their lives to the fullest. When I’m not talking with our freelancers and staff or working at my computer, there’s a good chance you’ll find me seeking out one of Oregon’s famous “sunbreaks” in my hometown of Portland. I love to eat and cook (in that order) and embrace my nerdy side with a lifelong passion for Star Wars and a rediscovered adult love of Legos.

Seth McBride

Director of Digital Content Strategy
I guess you could call me the web guy. I handle planning, assigning and editing most of the web-first content for Newmobility.com — everything from product announcements, to features and web series like Best Of or Gear Guides. I collaborate with our graphic designer and social media manager to make sure our stories are presented in a way that engages with readers. I also write — everything from in-depth features to product reviews and our newsletter. When not holed up in my clo-fice (yes, my home office is a glorified closet), my life revolves around my wife and two young kids, bikes, sports, and enjoying the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

When I became a paraplegic at the age of 14, it didn’t take me long to realize that “people like me” didn’t exist in the media — and I knew that was something I wanted to help change. I took a theater class in college, and I have been acting and advocating for the inclusion of disabled performers in the entertainment industry ever since. I also created the award-winning online comedy series My Gimpy Life. It’s exciting to bring my love of disability representation to New Mobility as the social media manager, media columnist and host of New Mobility Live. When I am not working, you’ll find me having fun with my son, River. See you online.

Senior Manager of Development

I’m very excited to bring my experience in media, business development and client relations to New Mobility. I believe in a personal and consultative approach, and my goal is to help our advertisers develop their marketing plans and increase their visibility through our print, digital and social platforms. In addition, I’ll be collaborating with our editorial and art team on a daily basis to make sure we are consistently putting out great content on products relevant to our readers. After spending the last 20 years in Philadelphia, I recently moved to the Delaware beaches and am enjoying the change of pace. In my free time, I’m an avid basketball fan, washed-up basketball player and poker enthusiast.

I do some of what I used to do as editor (2000-2018), but part-time and as-needed. Now semi-retired, I write occasional features and cover stories, help out with extra editing, and regularly proofread each monthly issue from cover to cover. I also enjoy fielding questions and requests we get from readers online. As a writing addict, though, I can’t stop creating new projects (stories, essays, screenplays, poems) in my “off-time.” Once in a great while I go silent for a few days or a week. My coffee mug reminds me what’s really happening then: “Writers Block — When your imaginary friends stop talking to you.” That’s when I practice eating.

I may be one of the last people on Earth who can say I started out as an intern and became the Publisher of a magazine. What an amazing journey! While NM evolved considerably during my tenure, I tried to keep its original spirit alive yet flexible as times and editors changed. Thirty-four years after that fateful first day at “the Spine,” I retired and eased into the consulting life, and I now enjoy contributing to New Mobility in whatever ways the current team needs: I design special editions, digitize print archives and attempt to transfer relevant know-how to the next generation. It’s a great gig. It always has been.
